Professionalism Beyond Books: Students Learn Real Skills
Newz Daddy Educational Updates
The Training and Placement Department of Swarrnim Startup and Innovation University recently organised a session titled ‘Professionalism Beyond Books’ to help first-year students and faculty members understand how one can survive and thrive in modern-day corporate culture.
In today’s fast-changing job market, universities are focusing more on practical learning. Events like these play a big role in helping students build confidence before stepping into the corporate world. According to reports, more than 80% of recruiters in India now look for strong soft skills along with degrees. Sessions that go beyond textbooks prepare students to handle real work situations like teamwork, deadlines, and workplace behaviour, which are often not taught in classrooms.
The session was led by Ms Monica Srivastava, Head of HR at Pronix Tech LLP, who shared insights from her extensive industry experience. She highlighted how true professionalism goes beyond academic achievement and how it is rooted in accountability, emotional intelligence, and ethical behaviour.
HR experts across industries agree that companies are now giving more weight to emotional intelligence and ethics while hiring. A survey by LinkedIn showed that 92% of talent professionals say soft skills are just as important or more important than hard skills. By sharing her real experiences, Ms Srivastava helped students understand what employers expect once they enter a workplace. Accountability and integrity are now seen as key qualities that make employees stand out in any company.
Ms Srivastava also emphasised the importance of communication skills, adaptability, and grooming in building a strong professional identity for oneself. Through real-life examples, she also demonstrated how soft skills and a positive attitude can help shape one’s long-term career growth. Some 95 members, including students and faculty, attended the session and engaged in discussions too.
Strong communication skills are often the first thing recruiters notice during interviews. Being adaptable means being ready for new roles, technologies, or situations without stress. Personal grooming, including how you dress and behave, gives the first impression. Career experts say that students who start focusing on these skills early tend to get better internships and job placements. Interactive sessions like this also help break the hesitation among students, allowing them to ask questions and learn through real examples.
Speaking on the initiative, Shri Adi Rishabh Jain, Vice President, Swarrnim Startup and Innovation University, said, “Sessions like these help bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry expectations, preparing students to face the professional world with confidence. Such events reflect our university’s vision and commitment to holistic education, nurturing not just academic excellence but also workplace readiness among our students.”
Across India, many universities are now making “industry connect” a regular part of their academic calendar. This helps students understand the actual expectations of companies. It also gives them a platform to interact with professionals directly. According to education experts, such efforts improve students’ job readiness and help them adjust faster in their first jobs. Holistic education is becoming a key focus because it balances both academic knowledge and life skills, which are equally important for career success.
