The ceremony commenced with a traditional prayer and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, setting a solemn and inspiring tone. At Karnavati University’s 6th Convocation held in Gujarat, the ritual symbolises the beginning of a bright journey for graduates, lamp lighting is long used across India to signify knowledge, hope and the start of something meaningful. The university hosted over 100 defence officials from Gujarat, underlining its strong link with national service and the armed forces.
Ritesh Hada, President, Karnavati University, formally declared the convocation open and welcomed the distinguished guests. Karnavati University was established in 2017 and is located in Uvarsad, near Gandhinagar, Gujarat. By offering a 36-acre campus and six schools, the university has quickly built an infrastructure to host large events and significant guests, reinforcing its vision of academic excellence and service.
Addressing the graduating students, Air Chief Marshal A P Singh congratulated them on their achievements and reminded them of their continuing journey ahead. He said:
“This journey does not end here — it is only the beginning. Life will grant you many milestones, and at each step, you must keep learning. Learning never stops, whether one is a student, a teacher, or a leader. Anyone, at any moment, can teach you something valuable. I, too, continue to learn every day. Wherever life takes you, stay grounded, stay humble, and remember to take pride in your roots. Be a good human being first — that is where true greatness begins. Anything that divides us is not good. Stay rooted to India — you are Indians first.”
In his distinguished career, Air Chief Marshal A P Singh served in the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force
beginning in December 1984. He has over 5,000 flying hours, was test pilot for LCA Tejas flight-tests and led major upgrade projects. When he speaks of learning, roots, humility and pride in India, he is drawing on decades of national service and leadership.
Following this, Ritesh Hada expressed deep respect for India’s Armed Forces and the university’s commitment to societal service through innovation. He said:
“Serving Indian military services through our innovation and research is among the core and pure value along with teaching other streams of knowledge and education at the Karnavati University.”
Karnavati University emphasises interdisciplinary education, design, business, liberal arts, mass communication, law, technology, dentistry, and through its mission it aims to blend academic learning with applied innovation and social service. The statement highlights the university’s idea of combining education with national service.
Guest of Honour Saurabh Shukla delivered an inspiring address on the importance of intellectual courage and independent thinking in an era of rapid change, urging students to remain curious, compassionate, and original in their pursuits. Saurabh Shukla began his career in theatre, joined the professional wing of the National School of Drama, and later emerged as a noted actor and writer in Indian cinema. His journey from theatre to big screen gives weight to his message about staying rooted, inventive and courageous in thought.
In a special moment of recognition and gratitude, Ritesh Hada conferred Honorary Doctorate Degrees upon Air Chief Marshal A P Singh for his distinguished service to national security, and Saurabh Shukla for his influential contributions to cinema, storytelling, and public thought. Honorary doctorates like these recognise contributions beyond academic achievement, to society, culture, nation.
Degrees and gold medals were then awarded to graduating students across the university’s schools of Design, Business, Liberal Arts and Mass Communication, Law, Technology, and Dentistry, celebrating their academic achievements and commitment to excellence. Awarding gold medals is a way institutions spotlight top performers, motivating peers and upholding standards of excellence.
The Registrar administered the Convocation Oath, affirming values of integrity, responsibility, and service to society. Convocation oaths reflect academic institutions’ aim not only to certify education but to instill a sense of duty and moral purpose.
This year, 1,400 graduates stepped into new beginnings from the university’s six distinguished schools, all located within a vibrant 36-acre campus that is home to more than 8,000 students each year. The scale here is significant 1,400 graduates in one convocation highlights a strong throughput of talent.
