Just a day after news reports emerged claiming that Sourav Ganguly wanted to issue a show-cause notice to the former Indian captain, Virat Kohli, the BCCI President has come ahead and said that these reports are ‘not true’.

News agency ANI questioned Ganguly on these reports when India’s 2003 World Cup captain said that the reports are “not true”.

The IANS report that claimed the above information had written: “BCCI president wanted to issue a show-cause notice to the then India Test captain before the beginning of the series against South Africa in December 2021.”

Before the start of the South Africa series, Virat Kohli was removed as ODI captain of the Indian team as BCCI’s stand on white-ball captaincy is of having a single captain in T20Is and One-days.

Virat Kohli had stepped down as India’s T20I captain in 2021 and was subsequently removed as the ODI captain. After Kohli was removed as ODI captain, Ganguly had said that Virat was already informed about the decision and that he personally had “requested” Virat not to step down from T20 captaincy.

Virat then conducted a press conference and cleared his stand on the issue. Kohli, during his pre-departure press conference ahead of the South Africa tour, said that he was never asked to stay on as T20 skipper when he made his intentions clear on relinquishing the post.

“Whatever was said about the communication that happened about the decision that was made was inaccurate,” Kohli had said with obvious reference to Ganguly’s statement.
