A Special Honouring of the Environment and Space at the National Wildlife Week Photo Exhibition

This year’s celebration of the 70th National Wildlife Week was marked not only by the beauty of wildlife but also by the enormity of space and the gravity of climate change. This photography show, which was co-organized by the Gujarat Ecological Education and Research (GEER) Foundation and the Seven Bad Birders (SBB) Foundation, demonstrated the innovative and instructive power of visual art in bringing important ecological issues to the public’s attention. Held at the Huteesing Visual Art Centre on the CEPT Campus in Ahmedabad, attendees included educators, students, photographers, and lovers of the outdoors.

Inaugural Event Led by Eminent Conservationists and Scientists

On October 4, 2024, a group of eminent leaders dedicated to conservation and education gave the exhibition its formal opening. The founder and head of the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) in Ahmedabad, Shri Kartikeya Vikram Sarabhai, teamed together with retired ISRO scientist Prof. Hari Om Vats, the Gujarat Forest Department’s Shri Uday Vora, and Treewalks’ Shri Lokendra Balasaria. Their participation emphasized the value of protecting the environment by motivating the audience with remarks about curiosity, conservation, and the value of visual documentation in comprehending the ecosystems of our planet.

Stunning Wildlife and Space Photography on Display

The remarkable contributions of 47 passionate naturalists, including members of Seven Bad Birders, who displayed a wide variety of wildlife photography, were the focal point of the presentation. A visual trip featuring stunning photos of birds, mammals, insects, amphibians, and the nuances of their natural habitats was presented to visitors. One-of-a-kind artwork highlighting climate change and space exploration gave a comprehensive perspective of the cosmos and Earth’s beauty, adding a unique touch to the experience.

Inspiring All Ages: A Family-Friendly Educational Event

With guests of all ages interacting with the stunning photography and artwork on display, the exhibition was a true family affair. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness among the next generation about biodiversity and the value of protecting our natural heritage. To enhance the learning experience, educators designed interactive workshops that allowed both adults and children to have a deeper understanding of the different species and habitats shown in the pictures. This educational program prompted visitors to consider their roles in preserving the environment by highlighting the significance of biodiversity and conservation activities.

Accessibility and Inclusive Efforts at the Venue

At the expo, accessibility was given great importance, and the organizers made sure that everyone felt welcome. The Huteesing Visual Art Centre provided wheelchair accessibility so that elderly and disabled visitors could fully take advantage of the exhibition’s contents. Furthermore, additional accommodations were built for visitors with visual impairments so they could interact with the artwork and learn from the exhibits. These accommodations included tactile and aural aids.

Location and Schedule

Located conveniently at the Huteesing Visual Art Centre on the CEPT Campus, the exhibition was open to visitors from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on October 4th, 2024. Since the CEPT Campus is renowned for its commitment to environmental awareness and artistic expression, the choice of location was crucial in elevating the entire experience.

A Unifying Theme: Wildlife, Space, and Climate Change

The “Wildlife, Space & Climate Change” exhibition’s main theme provided a framework for examining the complex relationships between life on Earth and the cosmos. Visitors were prompted to think about the necessity of space exploration, the impact of climate change, and the interconnection of ecosystems through this blending of topics. Viewers were motivated to take individual action to promote environmental problems and broaden their understanding of wildlife protection through thought-provoking artworks and images.

The Larger Goal: Raising Awareness for Conservation

This exhibition was intended to serve as a potent reminder of the vital role that each person has in protecting our world, rather than just being a visual feast. The Seven Bad Birders Foundation and the GEER Foundation hope to inspire a love for conservation in the neighborhood by organizing an exhibition of this magnitude. Owing to the ceaseless efforts of naturalists and photographers who devote their lives to documenting moments in nature, events such as these contribute to the development of a broader awareness of the natural world.

Organizers and Supporting Foundations

For their commitment to environmental research and education, the SBB Foundation and the GEER Foundation are both well known. SBB is dedicated to protecting bird habitats and enlightening the public about the value of avian diversity. It is run by enthusiastic birdwatchers and naturalists. In the meantime, the GEER Foundation is renowned for its in-depth studies on ecological preservation in Gujarat and has played a significant role in promoting conservation consciousness throughout the region.
