Adani Power adds a 600 MW boost with a smart rescue deal

Newzdaddy Business Updates

Adani Power now has 18,150 MW of active capacity; by 2029–2030, the company plans to reach 30,670 MW.
In Nagpur, Maharashtra, there is a 2 x 300 MW operational power project called VIPL.

Ahmedabad, July 8, 2025: For a total consideration of INR 4,000 crore, Adani Power Ltd. (APL), the biggest private thermal power producer in India, has successfully concluded the purchase and resolution plan implementation of Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd. (VIPL). Located in Butibori, Nagpur district, Maharashtra, VIPL is a domestic coal-fired power station with a capacity of 2×300 MW.

Under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), VIPL was going through the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP). Adani Power’s resolution plan was authorized by the National Company Law Tribunal’s (NCLT) Honourable Mumbai Bench on June 18, 2025. On July 7, 2025, the plan was subsequently carried out effectively.

With this acquisition, APL’s operating capacity rises to 18,150 MW. Through a combination of brownfield and greenfield projects, APL is significantly expanding its base load power generation portfolio. In addition to a 1,600 MW greenfield USCTPP in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, it is currently building six 1,600 MW brownfield USCTPPs at its existing locations in Singrauli-Mahan, Madhya Pradesh; Raipur, Raigarh, and Korba, Chhattisgarh; and Kawai, Rajasthan. Additionally, it is reviving the construction of a 1,320 MW supercritical power plant at Korba, which it previously acquired. With 30,670 MW of operating capacity by 2030, APL would solidify its position as the biggest private baseload power production business in India.

“A significant turning point in Adani Power’s plan to generate value through the turnaround of stressed assets is the acquisition of VIPL. We are dedicated to advancing India’s goal of “Electricity for All” by providing dependable, reasonably priced base-load electricity that supports the nation’s sustainable development, even as we broaden our portfolio,” stated SB Khyalia, CEO of Adani Electricity Ltd.
