Synopsis in Bullet Points

The city of Ahmedabad witnessed a grand celebration of badminton as the Black & One Cup 2025 concluded on a thrilling note. Held on May 17th and 18th at the Blackk & One Badminton Academy in Thaltej, the event brought together passionate players from across Gujarat in an exciting display of sportsmanship and competitive spirit. Organized by Blackk & One Sports Foundation in collaboration with the Gujarat Badminton Association, this prestigious tournament featured 16 teams competing fiercely in three categories—75+, 85+, and 95+ combined age groups.

The showdown between Ahmedabad Rockstars and Mumbai Risers was nothing short of electrifying. Both teams showcased incredible skill and determination, with Mumbai Risers finally clinching the title. The match, played under the high standards of the AS30 shuttlecock used in international tournaments, was filled with suspense and intensity.

The first game saw Ahmedabad Rockstars secure a narrow victory with a score of 30-29. Mumbai Risers responded with an emphatic win in the second game, finishing 30-16. In the third game, Ahmedabad Rockstars fought back with a 30-19 win, bringing the total scores to 76 for Ahmedabad Rockstars and 78 for Mumbai Risers. It was a nail-biting finish that kept the audience on the edge of their seats.

Adding to the event’s grandeur was the presence of Dr. K. L. N. Rao (IPS), Director General of Prisons, Gujarat, who graced the final as the Chief Guest. The tournament was hosted by Mr. Jitendra Yadav, the Managing Director of Blackk & One Badminton Academy. Their encouragement and support elevated the spirit of the event, making it even more memorable for the players and spectators.

This year’s edition set a record for offering the highest cash prizes in Gujarat’s badminton history. The winning team, Mumbai Risers, bagged a whopping ₹1,11,000. The first runner-up, Ahmedabad Rockstars, received ₹51,000, and the second runner-up took home ₹25,000. This generous reward structure not only motivated the players but also set a benchmark for future tournaments.

One of the standout features of the tournament was its inspiring message that age is no barrier to passion and performance. Each team included one player aged 30+ (born on or before 1994) and five players aged 35+ (born on or before 1989). This unique structure aimed to celebrate experienced athletes, proving that the competitive spirit only grows stronger with time.

Speaking on the occasion, Jitendra Yadav, Managing Director of Blackk & One Badminton Academy, shared his thoughts: “The tournament’s goal was to inspire people to believe that age should never limit performance or ambition. From young trainees to seasoned senior players aged 50 and above, the event highlighted the true essence of fitness, determination, and lifelong passion for the game.”

The Blackk & One Cup 2025 not only showcased excellent badminton skills but also celebrated the spirit of teamwork, resilience, and inclusivity. With its successful conclusion, the tournament set new standards for sports events in Gujarat, proving once again that the joy of playing knows no age.
