The Indian Pickleball Association (IPA), recognised as the National Sports Federation for pickleball by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), has initiated historic selection trials at the IPA Centre of Excellence in Ahmedabad. These trials, held on August 30 and 31, aim to form the first official Indian Pickleball Team for the 2025 Pickleball World Cup.
Over 140 players from across India, including Delhi, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Assam, Rajasthan, Odisha, Haryana, and Gujarat, are competing for a chance to represent the country. The competition spans three categories: Under-16, Open, and 50+. In the Under-16 category, two boys and two girls will be selected, with no singles events. The Open category includes men’s and women’s singles and doubles events, while the 50+ category focuses on men’s and women’s doubles.
The trials coincide with National Sports Day celebrations, highlighting India’s commitment to sports development. This milestone follows the success of the inaugural World Cup held in Lima, Peru, in October 2024, where over 500 players from more than 30 countries participated. India’s participation in the 2025 World Cup is expected to further fuel the sport’s growth domestically.
Players selected from Day 1 of the trials include:
-
Men’s Singles: Aman Patel
-
Men’s Doubles: Dhiren Patel and Suraj Desai
-
Women’s Singles: Amrita Mukherjee
-
Women’s Doubles: Rakshika Ravi and Sindoor Mittal
-
Under-16 Girls: Aayra Khanna and Anushka Chhabaria
The trials for the Under-16 Boys and 50+ categories will take place on August 31 in Ahmedabad.
