YASHODA AI – NCW, EDII and FSL Team up to Equip Women With Crucial AI Literacy for Women
A wave of excitement swept through the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) in Ahmedabad on July 3, 2025, as a special workshop under the YASHODA AI initiative wrapped up. This amazing effort is all about helping women entrepreneurs, members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and college students learn about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it can boost their businesses and lives. It’s a big step towards a future where every woman in India can use technology to achieve her dreams.

This groundbreaking program is a joint effort between the National Commission for Women (NCW), which works tirelessly to protect and promote women’s rights in India, and Future Shift Labs (FSL), a group dedicated to making sure technology helps everyone, especially those at the grassroots level. Together, they’re working to close the gap between women and digital tools, ensuring that no woman is left behind in our fast-moving world.
The day kicked off with a warm welcome for special guests. Mrs. Vijaya Rahatkar, the respected Chairperson of the NCW, was greeted with beautiful flowers. In her speech, Mrs. Rahatkar spoke passionately about how AI can truly change women’s lives for the better. She emphasized that it’s super important for all women, no matter where they come from or how much money they have, to get a chance to learn about digital tools and AI. Imagine a world where every woman has the power of AI at her fingertips – that’s the vision!
The YASHODA AI initiative is designed to tackle a big problem: the digital gap between men and women. Many women, especially in rural areas or those running small businesses, haven’t had the same opportunities to learn about technology. This program aims to change that by teaching them important AI skills. Ms. Shivani Dey, the Deputy Secretary of NCW, explained the program’s goals. She highlighted how it helps women at the community level use technology to grow their businesses and improve their social standing. It’s like giving them a special superpower to succeed!
Before the workshop even began, the organisers did a quick survey among the participants. What they found was interesting: many women didn’t know much about AI and weren’t very confident about using it. But that was exactly what the workshop aimed to fix! Mr. Swarup, an expert in helping new businesses grow and building strong connections, led the sessions. He made sure the learning was hands-on and exciting.
Participants got to explore some really cool “AI for Good” tools, which are AI tools used to make a positive impact. They also learned important tips about digital safety – how to protect themselves online, which is super crucial in today’s digital world. The workshop covered how technology can help businesses grow, making them smarter and more efficient. Women got to play around with popular AI platforms like Meta AI, ChatGPT, and Gemini. They learned how to use these tools to create new ideas, find information, and even simplify their daily tasks.
But it wasn’t just about fun AI tools. A very important part of the workshop was teaching about cybersecurity. In a world where scams and online threats are becoming more common, it’s vital to know how to stay safe. Participants learned about deepfakes (fake videos or audio), financial fraud, and app-based scams. They were also introduced to national cyber safety websites where they can report any suspicious activity and get help. This knowledge is like having a digital shield to protect their hard-earned money and personal information.
After the workshop, another survey was done, and the results were amazing! The women showed a much better understanding of AI tools and were very excited to use these technologies in their businesses. It was clear that the workshop had sparked a new confidence and eagerness to embrace the digital future. To celebrate their hard work and dedication, everyone received certificates of participation. It was a proud moment for all involved!
More than 250 women entrepreneurs and SHG members attended the workshop, which really shows how much impact the YASHODA AI initiative is having. It’s truly reaching women from all walks of life, making sure that everyone has a chance to benefit from the digital revolution.
This successful event in Ahmedabad is just one more step towards building a digitally strong future for women across India. The National Commission for Women and Future Shift Labs are committed to continuing the YASHODA AI program, expanding AI literacy, ensuring fair access to technology, and raising a new generation of women who are not just users of technology but also leaders in it.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) is the top organisation in India that works to protect and improve women’s rights. They constantly push for new ways to empower women, whether it’s through helping them understand their legal rights, providing education, or making sure they are included in the digital world.
Future Shift Labs (FSL) is also playing a huge role. Their main mission is to create a world where technology is for everyone and where new ideas lead to positive change. They are focused on fairness, access, and making a real difference at the ground level. The success of YASHODA AI is largely thanks to the smart leadership of Nitin Narang, who founded Future Shift Labs, Sagar Vishnoi, its Co-Founder, and Pranav Dwivedi, the Convenor of YASHODA AI. Their vision and dedication are what keep Future Shift Labs pushing for big, positive changes.
