Anirban Lahiri, an Indian golfer, made history by being runner-up at the historic Players Championship in Florida.
Lahiri finished in second place with a score of 12 under par, only missing out on the Players Championship Trophy in the renowned PGA event by one stroke.
Cameron Smith of Australia won the tournament after making 10 birdies in a six-under-par 66 to finish on 13 under par.
“I’m simply relieved.” I’ve had two years of terrible play, and the last time I competed on a field this nice was maybe five years ago… It’s been a long time since I’ve been in this situation, since I’ve played in this position, on such a high-quality field, so it’s a tremendous deal for me. After finishing second, Anirban Lahiri stated.
“When you go through such a lengthy period of famine, your faith takes a knock.” ‘Man, was it just a blip on the radar?’ you wonder. What exactly are you up to? He added after his performance, which garnered him a large financial reward, “You haven’t played well in a long time.”
This is huge for me (placing second in the Players Championship). “I’m going to start from the bottom and work my way up,” he continued.
The Players Championship is the world’s richest golf tournament in terms of prize money. The tournament is known as the fifth major in golf and one of the most renowned in the world.
Anirban won roughly 16.5 crores as a runner-up in the Players Championship, which had a total prize pool of around 150 crore rupees.
The event has previously been won by great golfers such as Tiger Woods and Greg Norman.
Lahiri’s previous best PGA Tour finishes were a T2 at the 2017 Memorial Tournament and a tie for third at the 2016 CIMB Classic in Malaysia.
