Cricket Australia has announced their 15-member squad for the much-anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is going to be played in Pakistan and in Dubai, on Hybrid Model.  The squad shows the blend of experienced players and and fresh and new faces, showcasing a strong team and a strong contender to win the champions trophy 2025.

The Australian world cup 2023 world champion captain and a pace bowler Pat Cummins, has been included in the squad although he is not completely fit and having injuries.  Pat Cummins is struggling with an ankle injury currently and is not included in the tour of Sri Lanka.  He sufferred this injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy where Australia beat india 3-1. If he does not recover on time then the Australian Captain Pat Cummins might miss few games of the Champions Trophy 2025.

One more big name in cricketing world is Australian premier bowler Josh Hazlewood. The tall pacer could not play all the test matches against India due to a side strain but Australian cricket board thinks that he will be fit and ready for the crucial Champions Trophy 2025. The selectors are very much optymistic about his recovery before the tournament begins.

The selectors have also shown faith and trust on two new talents set to make their debut in Champions Trophy 2025: Matt Short and Aaron Hardie. Both players have impressed with their performances in domestic and franchise cricket. Short, known for his explosive batting at the top of the order, and Hardie, a promising fast-bowling all-rounder, bring fresh energy to the team.

Nathan Ellis has also got his place in the squad due to performing consistently. His ability to adapt to different conditions and handle pressure situations has earned him a well-deserved spot.

While the squad is filled with experience and new talent, a few notable names are missing. The young opening batter, Jake Fraser-McGurk who made his mark in IPL 2024 and have also shown signs of brilliance but has struggled with form recently and did not make it to the squad. Another talented fast-bowling all-rounder Sean Abbott is also missing in the squad and Aaron Hardie has been selected by the Australian Selectors. The selection committee, led by George Bailey, has very rightly picked the players who are currently in form and are ready to play.

The squad includes stalwarts like Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Glenn Maxwell, and Adam Zampa, who have consistently delivered for Australia in ICC events. Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne will anchor the batting order, while Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh add depth and flexibility with their all-round abilities.

With a mix of seasoned players and exciting newcomers, the squad looks well-balanced. However, Mitchell Marsh’s recent struggles with the bat may be a point of concern, though the selectors have shown faith in his ability to turn things around.

Squad Overview

  • Captain: Pat Cummins
  • Other Players: Alex Carey, Nathan Ellis, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Matt Short, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa

The Australian selectors are allowed to change their squad if needed be untill February 12. The Champions Trophy 2025 is going to be very crucial for the world champions as they last won the Champions Trophy in 2009.

Fans across the world will hope that the blend of experienced campaigners and fresh talent can deliver a memorable performance on the global stage.
