His appointment as a CEO of ICC in November 2021, before that he was handling this position as an acting CEO of ICC for 8 months. 

In a statement reflecting on his time at the helm, Allardice expressed pride in what he had accomplished during his tenure. He noted that it was a privilege to serve as CEO and highlighted key achievements such as expanding cricket’s global reach and establishing a strong commercial foundation for ICC members. He thanked Jay Shah, the ICC Chair, along with the board of directors and the entire cricket community for their support over the past 13 years. Jay Shah also took a moment to acknowledge Allardice’s contributions, stating, “On behalf of the ICC Board, I want to sincerely thank Geoff for his leadership and commitment during his tenure as Chief Executive.” Shah emphasized that Allardice’s efforts were instrumental in advancing cricket on a global scale.

The timing of Allardice’s resignation raises eyebrows, particularly with only three weeks remaining until the Champions Trophy begins. There are reports suggesting that he faced mounting pressure from within the ICC board due to concerns about preparations for this prestigious tournament. Specifically, issues regarding stadium readiness in Pakistan have been cited as significant factors leading to his departure.Sources indicate that there were frustrations regarding financial mismanagement during previous events, including last year’s T20 World Cup held in the USA. The ICC board was reportedly dissatisfied with how preparations were being handled for the Champions Trophy, particularly concerning two venues in Rawalpindi and Karachi that are not ready for international matches.
