Gandhinagar, March 3, 2023

In honour of World Hearing Day, the Gandhinagar Civil Cochlear Implant Center put on a special cultural show at the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital. As part of this programme, Mr. Bhupendrabhai Patel, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, launched the book “Hearing Tales” at 10 a.m. at Swaminarayan Sankul. During this time, he met the kids and talked to them. Dr. Neeraj Suri (Gandhinagar Civil ENT Surgeon, Child Cochlear Implant Surgeon) was also there at the time and talked about hearing loss.

The little deaf children’s performance of “Suroon Ni Sargam” at the Gandhinagar Civil Auditorium, which went on all day, touched our hearts. Mr. Rishikesh Patel from the Government of Gujarat’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Dr. Neeraj Suri, an ENT Specialist Doctor and Child Cochlear Implant Surgeon at the Civil Hospital, were there to encourage the children.

More than 50 kids performed at the Gandhinagar Civil Auditorium to show off their skills to the world. Each child gave a full introduction to their hearing power through their performance. Aside from this, there was also a drawing contest, an art show, a musical performance, a stick performance, a singing performance, and so on for the kids. In which awards were given for “Best Drawing in Exhibition” and “Drawing Competition.” Mr. Rishikesh Patel gave certificates and prizes to the children who came to the programme (Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Gujarat).

Dr. Neeraj Suri, an ENT specialist and child cochlear implant surgeon at Civil Hospital Gandhinagar, talked about the programme. He said that there are a lot of people living with untreated hearing loss and ear diseases who need help right away. Action needs to be taken quickly to prevent and treat hearing loss at all stages of life. In India, the second most common disability is hearing loss. Most of it can be treated if it is caught early enough. Those children who can’t hear or speak from birth can’t do either. Four out of every 1000 babies are born with severe hearing loss that needs a complicated operation called cochlear implantation.

Dr. Neeraj Suri has performed surgery and implanted around 1600 cochlear implants in kids until 18 years. She has been working with Gandhinagar Civil relentlessly and doing a massive task for the betterment of the kids.

She also said that it’s important to be able to hear and talk at all stages of life. Hearing loss and related ear diseases can be prevented by doing things like protecting your ears from loud sounds, taking good care of your ears, and getting vaccinated. Hearing loss and related ear diseases can be treated if they are caught early and the right care is sought.
