The Role of A Finisher

Dinesh Karthik’s undefeated cameo on Tuesday (April 5) in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s four-wicket win against Rajasthan Royals was the product of a purposeful effort to reinvent himself and prove that he was ‘not done yet’ and has a lot to give to any side. Karthik scored an unbeaten 44 from 23 deliveries, as he and Shahbaz Ahmed added 67 runs for the sixth wicket to help RCB recover from a dangerous 87/5 midway through the match.

“I made a concerted effort to do myself justice.” In recent years, I’ve felt that I could have done better. I’ve approached training in a unique way. I kept reminding myself that I wasn’t finished yet.

During the post-match presentation, Karthik stated, “I have a goal and I want to achieve something.”

With RCB facing a high asking rate, he said he structured his innings to ensure they reached the mark. “We needed 12 runs and an over, so you’ll have to figure it out.” Keep your cool, know what you’re doing, and who you’re up against. “I tried to play white-ball cricket, practice matches, and scenarios,” the 36-year-old former India wicketkeeper-batsman stated.

He claimed that his preparation for the IPL 2022 has helped him play the way he did on Tuesday, improvising to hit big shots all over the ground. “Those are the hours you work when no one is watching.”

The main work is done in the lead-up, and I’ll take credit for that. In T20, you have to be able to premeditate, but if it isn’t there, you have to be able to change the shot,” said the seasoned player, who has previously played for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Kolkata Knight Riders, and Mumbai Indians in the IPL and was selected by RCB in the auction this year.

RCB’s decision is proving to be a wise one, despite the fact that some were suspicious given his advanced age.
