Divadandi student development initiative brings guidance to classrooms

Silvin Additives has taken a thoughtful step towards student welfare with the launch of Divadandi, a long-term student development initiative rooted in guidance, care and responsibility. Based in Ahmedabad, Silvin Additives is known for manufacturing advanced additives used in PVC and CPVC pipes, but through Divadandi, the company is placing equal focus on social responsibility and education. The initiative draws its name from the Gujarati word for lighthouse, symbolising direction and support during important phases of a student’s life.

Divadandi is designed to help students strengthen academic habits, build life skills and develop confidence at a time when many face pressure from studies, exams and personal changes. In recent years, educators and psychologists have highlighted how students in secondary and higher secondary classes often struggle with stress, lack of clarity and low self-belief. Programmes like Divadandi aim to bridge this gap by offering structured guidance outside the regular classroom setting.

The programme began earlier this month at Sheth H H Shirolawala High School in Bodeli, located in the Chhota Udaipur district. This region includes many first-generation learners, where students often lack access to career guidance or structured mentoring. By starting the initiative here, Silvin Additives has focused on an area where support can have a meaningful and lasting impact. Nearly 1,800 students from Standards 9 to 12 are being covered under the programme, ensuring that both younger and senior students receive age-appropriate guidance.

Each student participates in nine hours of training spread across three sessions. This format allows students to absorb ideas gradually rather than feeling overwhelmed. The sessions are led by Kamal Dabawala and his team, who are known for their work in student engagement and skill development. Such trainers often use interactive methods, storytelling and real-life examples, which help students relate better and stay involved.

The first session focuses on personality development and behavioural skills. Confidence-building and communication are key areas, as many students struggle to express themselves clearly, especially during exams or group activities. Emotional awareness and teamwork are also covered, helping students understand their feelings and work better with others. These skills are now widely recognised as essential for both academic success and future workplaces.

The second session turns attention to academic planning. For students in Standards 9 and 11, the focus is on building strong study habits early. Guidance on planning, exam techniques and digital discipline helps students manage time and avoid distractions from excessive screen use. For students in Standards 10 and 12, the approach becomes more focused on board examinations. These classes often bring high stress, as results are linked to future education and career paths. Support in subject-wise planning, stress management and early career thinking helps students feel more prepared and less anxious.

The final session addresses age-specific challenges that students face beyond textbooks. Younger students receive guidance on early adolescence, self-image and responsible use of social media. With increasing online exposure at a young age, awareness around digital behaviour has become essential. Older students are supported in handling performance pressure, future uncertainty and expectations from family and school. Discussions also cover how to avoid negative influences and make healthy choices. The programme includes awareness around health, safety and digital well-being, areas that are often overlooked in formal education.
