Diwali Medical Helpline Brings 24/7 Lifeline for Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad Gets a Safety Shield With Round-the-Clock Diwali Medical Helpline

Ahmedabad Medical Association (AMA) and Ahmedabad Family Physicians Association (AFPA) Launch “Doctor On Call” Diwali Medical Helpline

In a joint initiative for community health, the Ahmedabad Medical Association (AMA) and Ahmedabad Family Physicians Association (AFPA) have launched the “Doctor On Call” Diwali Medical Helpline. This special service will be available from 19th October to 26th October, offering round-the-clock medical support to citizens during the festive season.

Every year, during Diwali, hospitals and clinics across Ahmedabad see a rise in health emergencies. Many of these are linked to firecracker burns, asthma attacks caused by smoke, food poisoning from festive sweets and snacks, and accidents during celebrations. Reports show that emergency cases often increase by 20 to 30% during this period. Elderly people and children are usually the most affected. Having quick access to medical help can make a big difference in such situations.

AMA is one of the oldest and most respected medical associations in Ahmedabad, representing hundreds of doctors from different specialities. AFPA focuses on family medicine and has a strong network of neighbourhood physicians. By joining hands, both associations are building a strong support system to handle common festive health problems. Their goal is to ensure that people receive trusted medical advice without delay, even if clinics are closed.

Members of AMA and AFPA have volunteered to make themselves available by phone for any health emergencies or queries. This service is open to everyone and reflects their commitment to community health. A simple phone consultation can help people decide whether to visit a hospital or manage the issue at home. During the COVID-19 lockdowns, similar doctor helplines helped many families stay calm and get the right advice without rushing to overcrowded hospitals.

Diwali often brings challenges for emergency services. Many small clinics shut for the holidays, and government hospitals become crowded. Having experienced doctors available on call can prevent delays in treatment. In previous years, doctors received calls about minor burns, eye irritation, breathing problems, and stomach infections. Many of these issues were solved through first-aid guidance over the phone, avoiding unnecessary panic and hospital visits.

This initiative also eases the pressure on emergency rooms. Often, people go to hospitals even for mild problems simply because they don’t know what to do. With this helpline, they can speak to a doctor first, get clear instructions, and visit the hospital only if required. This makes emergency services more efficient and allows serious patients to get quicker attention.

The helpline numbers will be published on the AMA website and shared through various media channels. In emergencies, quick access to the right contact is crucial. For example, early first aid for burns or breathing trouble can prevent the condition from worsening before reaching a hospital.

Diwali is a time of celebration, but it also comes with health risks. This helpline by AMA and AFPA ensures that expert medical advice is just a phone call away, making festive celebrations safer and worry-free for Ahmedabad’s residents.
