Students from DPS-Bopal Ahmedabad Discover the Enchantment of Theatre at the AHA! International Festival
The sixth edition of the AHA! International Theatre Festival for Children took place at the Kanoria Art Centre, providing Delhi Public School–Bopal kids in Classes IV through VII with a memorable theatrical experience. With a focus on young audiences, the festival is a worldwide celebration of theatre. The event’s high point was a fun clown show called “Job Less Job: A Whimsical & Interactive Clowning Spectacle,” which was put up by Red Thread Entertainment and performed by Mumbai-based theatrical professionals Sagar and Shreeram.
This avant-garde drama, which was directed by Ranga Shankara, AHA, Bengaluru, adopted a daring and novel storytelling technique. Young minds were enthralled by the performance’s poignant and amusing story, which was told with little to no English and mostly through mime, exaggerated gestures, evocative images, and non-verbal clues. Tinu and Kamala, two itinerant clowns who think that “having no job is the job,” were the focus of the narrative. When a mysterious job letter ends up in a trash can, their carefree lives take an unexpected turn, leading to many fantastic and humorous events.
They provide scenarios full of chaos, delight, and surprise as the clown searches among strange items like stray boxing gloves and sticky balloons. The clowns’ comic timing, physical storytelling, and playful chemistry had the students in stitches while simultaneously inspiring them to consider more profound issues like purpose, friendship, and the delight of exploration.
Students were motivated by the unforgettable experience, and their minds were buzzing with inquiry, fun, and a fresh appreciation for the theatre industry. These kinds of experiences enhance kids’ educational journeys outside of the classroom by fostering creativity, empathy, and a lifelong love of the arts.
