DPS-Bopal Student Aashvi Singh Earns Gujarat State Chess Podium
DPS-Bopal Student Aashvi Singh Finishes Third in Gujarat State Under-15 Chess Championship
Aashvi Singh, a Class VI student of Delhi Public School-Bopal, Ahmedabad, finished third in the Under-15 category at the Gujarat State Chess Championship, adding another state-level result to her growing record in competitive chess.
The championship brought together young players from across Gujarat. Aashvi’s podium finish came in a field that included several rated players and competitors from different parts of the state.
The Gujarat State Chess Association conducted the Under-15 Girls State Selection tournament on September 12 and 13, 2026. The event was part of the state’s selection process for the national Under-15 championship. Aashvi was listed among the leading players in the starting field with a FIDE rating of 1,565. The tournament record lists 52 players in the event.
For Aashvi Singh, the result adds to a record that has developed over several years. She first took part in competitive chess at a young age and has moved through several age groups in Gujarat’s junior chess circuit.
DPS-Bopal’s own school publication reported in January 2026 that Aashvi had started playing chess at the age of six. The school said she won the Gujarat State Chess Championship in the Under-7 category in 2022 in both the National and Interschool competitions. She later won state titles in the Under-9 category in 2024 and finished runner-up in the Under-11 State Championship in 2025.
Aashvi Singh’s record also includes participation in national-level competitions. According to the school’s January 2026 account, Aashvi had represented Gujarat at six national championships in the Under-7, Under-9 and Under-11 age groups. The same school publication recorded a highest national ranking of 11 during that period.
Earlier in 2026, Aashvi also won the Gujarat State Under-11 Girls Chess Championship held during Khel Mahakumbh in Ahmedabad. The competition was organised by the Sports Authority of Gujarat. DPS-Bopal reported the result as another state-level title for the young player.
Aashvi Singh’s progress can also be seen in official tournament records. In July 2026, Aashvi took part in the Gujarat State Under-13 Girls Selection tournament for the National Chess Championship. She entered that event with a FIDE rating of 1,512 and was among the players from Ahmedabad.
By September, Aashvi Singh’s listed rating for the Under-15 state selection had risen to 1,565. She was ranked seventh on the starting list, behind players including Khanak Kapadia, Aditri Shome, Vini Gandhi, Manya Balani and Rajvi Mahesh Shukla.
The move into the Under-15 age group is significant in junior chess because players face opponents with more experience and, in many cases, higher ratings. Aashvi’s participation in the category shows that she has continued competing as she has moved beyond the age groups in which she had previously won state titles.
Aashvi Singh’s competitive record is not limited to state championships. FIDE records also list Aashvi in the 2026 Gujarat International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament. In that event, she scored 4.5 points from 10 games in Category B. Her opponents included players with ratings above 1,600 and several players rated above 1,800.
The Gujarat chess calendar for 2026 includes state selection events across several junior age groups, including Under-7, Under-9, Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19. These events form part of the process through which players compete for places in national championships. The Under-15 state selection was originally listed for July before being moved to September 12-13.
For schools, such competitions also provide a route for students to test themselves outside regular classroom activities. Chess demands that players remember positions, calculate possible moves and make decisions within a fixed time. Junior tournaments give children regular experience of playing against opponents they may not know and of handling both wins and losses during a competition.
DPS-Bopal has recorded several chess results involving its students in recent years. Its annual report for the 2023-24 academic year noted that Aashvi, then a Class III student, won the Under-11 girls category at a Khel Mahakumbh district-level chess competition and secured first place in the Under-11 category.
A school publication also reported her victory in the Under-11 Girls Chess Tournament at the State Khel Mahakumbh in 2026.
This latest third-place finish comes after several years of tournament experience, not as an isolated result. Aashvi has competed through multiple age categories, taken part in FIDE-rated events and represented Gujarat at national competitions.
For the 2026 Under-15 campaign, her third-place finish gives her another strong state-level result as she continues to compete against older and more experienced junior players. The result also adds another entry to the growing list of chess achievements recorded by Delhi Public School-Bopal students in state and district competitions.
