Emotional Roar For Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP): A Brave And Transparent Roadmap For Rural Gujarat As Per Arvind Kejriwal

The dusty plains of Limkheda in Dahod district recently played host to a massive political gathering that might just signal a shifting tide in Gujarat’s traditional power dynamics. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) organised the ‘Vijay Vishwas Sabha,’ a grand rally that saw a significant turnout of farmers, labourers, and youth from across the tribal belt. Leading the charge were the party’s heavyweights: National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Their message was clear: after decades of being caught between two major parties, the tribal communities of Gujarat deserve a third way.

Addressing the sea of supporters, Arvind Kejriwal did not hold back in his critique of the current political landscape. He argued that for thirty years, the BJP and Congress have essentially shared the spoils of the state while neglecting the very people who form its backbone. His speech focused heavily on the plight of the tribal community, alleging that despite billions of pounds being allocated for their welfare, the money rarely reaches the villages. Instead, he claimed, it ends up in the pockets of corrupt officials and politicians.

One of the most emotional moments of the rally was the mention of local MLA Chaitar Vasava. Kejriwal highlighted Vasava’s recent imprisonment, framing it not as a legal matter, but as a sacrifice. He told the crowd that while corrupt ministers walk free because they have “connections at the top,” a leader who raises his voice for the poor is thrown in jail. This resonated deeply with the local audience, many of whom feel that the legal system is often used to silence those who demand their basic rights to “water, forest, and land.”

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders drew frequent comparisons between Gujarat and Punjab to show that change is possible. Bhagwant Mann, himself the son of a farmer, spoke about the transformations his government has brought to Punjab since their victory in 2022. He spoke about providing free electricity for farming and ensuring that irrigation water reaches the fields during the day, rather than at two in the morning. Perhaps most importantly for the farmers in attendance, he explained how Punjab now ensures immediate payment for crops, contrasting this with the months-long wait many Gujarat farmers currently face.

The “Delhi Model” and “Punjab Model” of governance were presented as blueprints for Gujarat’s future. Kejriwal promised that if given a chance, AAP would overhaul the healthcare system, mirroring the £10 lakh insurance coverage currently offered to families in Punjab. He spoke passionately about the state of government schools, promising to turn broken buildings into “temples of learning” where the children of the poor can dream of becoming doctors and engineers. He even mentioned sending teachers abroad for training to ensure the highest standards of education.

The issue of rising costs was another major pillar of the rally. With electricity bills in Gujarat being among the highest in the country, the promise of “zero bills” a reality for 90% of homes in Punjab, was a powerful draw. Kejriwal also touched upon a new scheme to provide £1,000 per month to every woman, an initiative he says will empower families and help them cope with inflation. He dismissed the criticisms from rival parties, stating that if ministers can enjoy free perks, the common man deserves them even more.

State President Isudan Gadhvi and MLA Chaitar Vasava also addressed the gathering, focusing on the identity and pride of the tribal people. Vasava, who is currently banned from entering his own area due to court orders, spoke via his presence at the rally about the “sweat of the tribal people” that built the grand buildings of Gandhinagar. He argued that despite building the state’s infrastructure, his people are still fighting for basic teachers and doctors in their own districts.

As the rally concluded, the atmosphere was one of defiance and hope. The leaders urged the crowd to look beyond ancestral loyalties to the older parties and think about the future of their children. With district and taluka panchayat elections on the horizon, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is clearly positioning itself as the party of the “common person,” promising to give tickets to the sons and daughters of farmers and labourers rather than the children of political dynasties. The ‘Vijay Vishwas Sabha’ was more than just a political meeting; it was a loud declaration that the tribal heartland of Gujarat is looking for a new brand of honest politics.

The Risks of the AAP Model

While the ‘Vijay Vishwas Sabha’ was high on energy, a balanced view reveals significant hurdles that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) must address:

  • The Debt Trap: Punjab’s debt is projected to hit an alarming ₹4.17 lakh crore by the end of March 2026. Critics argue that “freebie” politics (free power and water) is pushing states toward a fiscal crisis, leaving little money for infrastructure like roads and bridges.
  • The Delhi Setback: After a decade of power, AAP lost the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections to the BJP. This suggests that even in their stronghold, voters may be growing weary of populism over long-term urban solutions like pollution control and clean water, and the corruption charges on the liquor scam are still in court against top leaders of AAP.
  • Legal & Moral Shadows: Despite recent court discharges in the excise case (Feb 2026), the party’s “anti-corruption” image has been tested by years of investigations. The public remains divided on whether these cases were purely political or a sign of administrative lapses.
  • Governance vs. Activism: There is a growing concern that AAP leaders focus more on national expansion and protests than on the daily governance of the regions they currently represent.
  • The Punjab Model: The whole world is following the “Gujarat Model”, and these AAP leaders are asking Gujaratis to adopt and follow the “Punjab Model”, a joke or reality?

Questions to the Public

  1. Sustainable or Short-term? Can Gujarat afford “free” schemes without falling into a massive debt trap like Punjab?
  2. Infrastructure or “Revadi”? Would you prefer direct cash/subsidies today, or better roads and permanent jobs for the next generation?
  3. Local or Outsider? Is Gujarat ready for a party whose top decisions are made in Delhi and Punjab, rather than locally?
  4. The Third Front Risk: Does voting for a “third option” like AAP bring real change, or does it simply split the vote and help the traditional giants?

The people of Gujarat are now smart enough that they will think twice before making any decisions to vote. Today, the voters listen to each politician, but they make their decisions based on their own understanding and experience.
