‘Energetic and Electric’ – Tennis Premier League Season 7 Champions Sofia Costoulas and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan of GS Delhi Aces describe the atmosphere in Ahmedabad after lifting the title
GS Delhi Aces capped off a dream maiden season by clinching the Tennis Premier League Season 7 title, delivering a commanding performance right from the opening day to the final.
The Tennis Premier League Season 7, powered by Clear Premium Water, was supported by Yonex Sunrise as the Official Equipment Partner and Max Protein as the Official Protein Partner. Over the years, the league has evolved into one of India’s most exciting team-based tennis events, blending international stars with Indian talent and showcasing matches in a fast-paced, fan-friendly format that appeals to families and young sports enthusiasts alike.
Led by a standout campaign from Sofia Costoulas, who remained a pillar of consistency across women’s singles and mixed doubles, and guided by the calm leadership of Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and marquee player Billy Harris, the Delhi-based franchise asserted its authority right from day one, finishing the season as deserved champions by defeating Yash Mumbai Eagles 51-36 in the grand finale. The wide margin in the final showed not just skill but strong planning, fitness, and teamwork, which are key in a short and intense league like the TPL.
Sofia especially was in top form throughout the week, winning all seven of her Women’s Singles contests comfortably, single-handedly winning 118 points for her team. Such consistency is rare in team tennis, where pressure changes daily. Reflecting on her Tennis Premier League experience, she said, “For me personally, this tournament has been incredible. I learned a lot, enjoyed every match and felt very grateful to be part of such a high-quality event. I will take a lot of great memories from this tournament and definitely take some of the lessons and memories with me for the next season.” Young players often credit leagues like the TPL for helping them grow mentally, as the format demands quick recovery and focus.
Speaking about the team’s dominance on the final day, the 20-year-old Belgian highlighted the collective strength within the squad, adding, “The biggest reason behind our performance was the people around us.” In modern sports, support systems play a significant role, and the Aces demonstrated how unity off the court can lead to success on the court. Her praise for Jeevan and Billy reflected a team culture built on trust and shared responsibility rather than individual glory.
Echoing the sentiment, Jeevan credited the team’s balance and composure throughout the week, saying, “By the end of the week, we were defeating teams by an average of 20 points.” Such margins underline how well the players understood the scoring system and adapted tactics without panic, an approach often seen in experienced doubles specialists like Jeevan.
On the culture within the camp and the influence of Leander Paes, Sofia said it was motivating to be around a legend of Indian tennis. Paes has long been known for his leadership and energy, and his presence often inspires younger players to push harder and stay focused during tight moments.
Recalling her favourite moments of the tournament, Sofia added that the final point sealed by Billy Harris stood out the most. Moments like these become lasting memories not only for players but also for fans watching from the stands and on screens.
Jeevan, meanwhile, pointed to the league-stage clash against Gurgaon Grand Slammers as a turning point. Big wins against strong opponents early in a tournament often build belief, and that confidence clearly carried GS Delhi Aces through the week.
Both players also lauded the atmosphere in Ahmedabad. The city has steadily become a strong host for major sports events, thanks to central venues and an enthusiastic crowd. Packed stadiums and loud support are crucial for leagues aiming to grow beyond television and build a real sporting culture at ground level.
Summing up the experience, Jeevan said the atmosphere in Ahmedabad was the best the Tennis Premier League has seen so far. His comments highlight how location, crowd access, and fan engagement can shape the future of Indian tennis leagues and help bring the sport closer to everyday fans.
