Gangotri Trust is going to organise Umashankar Joshi Memorial Lecture on 10th December 2022. Gangotri trust is organizing this event every year since 2011; however, due to the Pandemic, this event is going to be held after two years.  At this event an, eminent Tamil and English feminist writer and social historian, V Geetha will deliver a lecture on “Dravidian and Different. What women writers have to say?”

Giving details about the programme, Swati Joshi, Trustee, of Gangotri Trust said “V.Geetha is an eminent Tamil and English feminist writer and social historian based in Chennai. She is also a Translator and Publisher at Tara Books. She has written in Tamil and English on gender, labour, caste, civil rights and education. She published work includes Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar and the question of socialism in India; Undoing Impunity: Speech after sexual violence; and (with S Rajadurai) Towards a Non-Brahmin millennium; From Iyothee Thas to Periyar”.

One more book she has written is “Religion, Faith and Citizenship, a view from below.”  The book is based on how a common man views religion and follows it. She has written on both prominent religions Hindu and Islam, particularly about the women of both these religions.

V. Geetha has also written about secularism considering the 21st century and also in terms of South Asia. She has described the secular term in depth in her book.

She is an author related to women and their upliftment. She has about the women of Tamil and their situation in the Tamil Language.  V. Geetha is also an activist for women.  Her book “Undoing impunity She recently has written a book “Undoing Impunity – Speech After Sexual Violence” published in 2016 which is based on sexual violence.   

During this event, V. Geetha will be giving a lecture on the “Dravidian Movement” and what women and lower cast people think about this “Dravidian Movement”.

The motive of Gangotri Trust for organizing these events is that they call eminent scholars and writers from different parts of the country and allow them to say something about their culture and literature.  By doing so, the people of Gujarat will be able to know about the rich and heritage culture of India through these kinds of events.
