Participants will benefit from expert lectures by faculty from RRU, SAC (ISRO), GIDM, and senior NDRF officials. Field visits to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management (GIDM), and Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) will offer practical insights into India’s disaster resilience and geospatial capabilities.

The programme exemplifies India’s commitment to international cooperation for sustainable development and global peace. RRU Launches International Geoinformatics Training for Disaster Risk Reduction and National Security, Rashtriya Raksha University, took a big step to train people from many countries. This is a strong sign that India shares its knowledge to help others.

Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) has inaugurated a two-week ITEC training program on “Geoinformatics, Disaster Risk Reduction & National Security,” for 29 international participants representing 18 countries.
India’s ITEC program is part of a long-standing effort by the Ministry of External Affairs to share capacity-building expertise with developing nations. Programs like this help build trust and strengthen international ties through shared learning.

Hosted by the Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction (CDRR), School of Internal Security and SMART Policing (SISSP) in collaboration with the International Cooperation and Relations Branch (ICRB), RRU, the program is themed “Geospatial Pathways to National Security and Disaster Risk Reduction.”  Geospatial tools are vital in safety work. Using maps and satellite data helps leaders plan evacuations, predict floods or fires, and keep citizens safe by acting ahead.

The inaugural session was chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Kalpesh H. Wandra, Pro Vice Chancellor, RRU. He emphasised, “It’s high time to take leverage from technologies like geoinformatics for disaster risk reduction,”. The inaugural season was also graced by the esteemed presence of Director SISSP, Mr. Bhawani Sinh Rathore, and Director ICRB, Mr. Ravish Shah. Geoinformatics combines geography with computer technology to make smart maps, showing places at risk. Experts will teach how to use these maps soon, and having leaders speak at launch adds purpose and trust.

When learners come from many nations, they share goals and face similar problems. This creates bonds that last. Building friendly links from Kenya to Panama, thanks to this program, emphasises India’s global goodwill.

The programme features intensive sessions on Principles of Remote Sensing and GIS, National Security and Disaster Management: A Security Approach, The Climate Threat and Geoinformatics, CBRN Threats and Assessment, and Policy Architecture for HADR Operations. Participants will benefit from expert lectures by faculty from RRU, SAC (ISRO), GIDM, and senior NDRF officials. Remote sensing, from ISRO satellites, helps watch storms and floods. Knowing how to use it means faster relief. NDRF officers bring real stories from rescue missions. GIDM experts show how policy and planning protect people before disaster strikes.

Field visits to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management (GIDM), and Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) will offer practical insights into India’s disaster resilience and geospatial capabilities. Visiting places like SEOC helps learners see coordination in real time. At ISR, they learn about earthquakes and safety. Hands-on visits make learning real, not just theory. The programme exemplifies India’s commitment to international cooperation for sustainable development and global peace. Programs like this reflect the ideals of sustainable development. They build local skills, reduce losses from disasters, and promote peace by helping countries help themselves, together with India.
