 Gujarat Science City, one of the most popular science hubs in Ahmedabad, is all set to launch its brand-new Astronomy and Space Science Gallery. This exciting attraction, developed under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat, will be open to the public from 15 May 2025. With its breathtaking design and state-of-the-art facilities, this gallery promises to take visitors on an incredible journey through space and time.

The Astronomy and Space Science Gallery is spread across a massive 12,797 square metres and is designed to look like a miniature solar system. At its heart stands a giant globe symbolising the Sun, towering three storeys high. Surrounding it are exhibits representing the planets and other celestial objects, giving visitors a unique perspective of our cosmic neighbourhood.

Inside the gallery, visitors will find six main sections packed with interactive exhibits and learning opportunities:

Fundamentals and History – This section features 47 exhibits that take you back in time to explore how astronomy began. Visitors can learn about ancient stargazers, early telescopes, and the discoveries that changed our understanding of space.

Present Gallery – The Present Gallery focuses on current space missions and breakthroughs. With 30 interactive displays, visitors can learn about recent space explorations, satellite technology, and India’s growing role in space science.

Future Gallery – Here, you can take a sneak peek at what the future holds for space exploration. With 24 exhibits, the Future Gallery explores new technologies, upcoming missions, and futuristic concepts like space colonies and interplanetary travel.

Science Gallery – This special gallery is dedicated to showcasing India’s contributions to astronomy and space science. It features 32 exhibits that highlight groundbreaking projects like Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan, and the Gaganyaan Mission.

Stellar Gallery – The Stellar Gallery is perfect for stargazers, with 8 exhibits dedicated to stars and constellations. Visitors can explore how stars are born, how they die, and their role in the universe.

Virtual Reality Gallery – For those who want a more immersive experience, the Virtual Reality Gallery offers 4 space simulations that make you feel like you are floating among the stars.

During the gallery’s announcement, Ms. Mona Khandhar, Principal Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, expressed her excitement, stating that Science City is growing as a centre of learning and exploration under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel. She added that after the success of the Aquarium and Robotic Gallery, the Astronomy and Space Science Gallery is ready to inspire curiosity and wonder among visitors.

Ms. Khandhar also highlighted the timing of the launch during the vacation period, ensuring that students and families can enjoy and learn from the exhibits during their holidays. Special activities and a 3d film show are also planned for students to make their visit even more engaging.

The gallery also includes 4 atrium-based installations and 6 outdoor displays that allow visitors to interact with space science in new and exciting ways.
