Junior Talent Shines At Gujarat State Ranking Tennis Tournament

  • Harsha Deshpande secures the Girls Under-16 Singles crown, building on her strong upward trajectory.

  • Hridhaan Rathod claims runner-up finish in Boys Under-12 Singles.

  • Results reflect the structured high-performance pathway at Adani Sportsline Academy.

Young players from the Adani Sportsline Academy delivered standout performances at the Gujarat State Ranking Tennis Tournament 2026, reaffirming the academy’s growing presence in the state’s junior tennis circuit.

The tournament, held at Lakshya Sports Academy, Ahmedabad, from February 4 to 10, witnessed Harsha Deshpande lift the Girls Under-16 Singles title after a composed and tactically mature campaign. Her victory builds on the momentum of a breakthrough 2025 season, during which she claimed multiple state and national honours, including a double title at the Gujarat State Tennis Association rankings and her first All India Championship Series win. Her steady transition across age categories signals sustained development and competitive resilience.

In the Boys Under-12 Singles draw, Hridhaan Rathod progressed confidently to the final before finishing runner-up. His run through the tournament showcased growing match awareness and consistency at a crucial stage of his formative years.

Both athletes are part of the Adani Sportsline Academy’s long-term athlete development programme, which integrates technical training, physical conditioning and competitive exposure. Their performances underscore the academy’s commitment to building a strong pipeline of junior tennis talent through structured coaching and sustained tournament participation.

The Gujarat State Ranking Tennis Tournament is an important event in the state’s tennis calendar. Ranking tournaments help young players earn points that decide their state positions. These rankings often decide who gets selected for bigger competitions at the national level. For many juniors, this is the first serious step towards representing Gujarat in national championships. Competing at this level also helps players learn how to handle pressure, long matches and different playing styles.

The Lakshya Sports Academy in Ahmedabad has become a popular venue for such events. The courts are known for good surface quality and proper lighting, which allows players to perform at their best. Tournaments like this usually attract strong competition from across Gujarat. That makes every round tough, especially the semi-finals and finals. Young players must stay focused not just physically, but mentally too.

Harsha Deshpande’s victory in the Girls Under-16 Singles category stands out because the Under-16 level is highly competitive. Players in this age group are often preparing to move into national junior circuits. Winning here shows that Harsha has both skill and mental strength. Her calm approach on court suggests she understands match strategy. In junior tennis, learning when to attack and when to defend is very important. Many young players rely only on power, but those who mix power with smart shot selection often succeed for a longer time.

Her 2025 season already marked her as a rising name in Gujarat tennis. Winning titles at the Gujarat State Tennis Association rankings shows consistency. The All India Championship Series win is also significant. These national-level events bring together top juniors from different states. Performing well there means a player can compete beyond state borders. Transitioning smoothly from one age group to another is not easy. It requires stronger fitness, better stamina and sharper technique. Harsha’s steady progress suggests she is building her game step by step.

On the boys’ side, Hridhaan Rathod’s runner-up finish in the Under-12 category is equally encouraging. The Under-12 stage is where basic match habits are formed. At this age, players learn how to handle scoring pressure and long rallies. Reaching the final meant Hridhaan had to win several tough matches. That shows focus and determination. Even though he finished second, such experience is valuable. Many top players often speak about how early finals shaped their careers.

In junior tennis, development is not just about trophies. It is also about learning from each match. Coaches often say that close matches teach more than easy wins. Hridhaan’s performance shows that he is building confidence. Consistency at this stage is key. Regular match play helps improve footwork, timing and shot control.

The Adani Sportsline Academy has been working to create a clear pathway for young athletes. A structured training programme usually includes daily practice sessions, fitness drills and recovery routines. Young players are taught not just how to hit the ball, but how to plan points and manage emotions. Physical conditioning is also important. Tennis demands quick movement, balance and endurance. Without proper fitness, even talented players struggle in long matches.

Another key part of development is tournament exposure. Playing in state and national events helps juniors gain confidence. It also allows them to face different opponents, which improves adaptability. Over time, this builds competitive resilience. That means players can bounce back after losing a set or facing tough situations.

The recent results from the Gujarat State Ranking Tennis Tournament show that the academy’s approach is working. When young players consistently reach finals and win titles, it reflects the strength of their training system. Gujarat has been steadily growing in junior tennis, and performances like these add to that progress.

For Harsha and Hridhaan, this is an important stage in their journey. With the right guidance and steady effort, they can aim for higher levels in the coming years. For now, their achievements have given Gujarat tennis another reason to feel proud.
