The Thakor community of Patan performed a historic ‘Mameru’ on the occasion of the wedding of the daughter of Ahmedabad’s philanthropist Bababhai Bharwad. More than 2000 people of the Thakor community of Patan came together to set an example of social unity. A unique initiative was taken by performing a ‘collective Mameru’ for former corporator Bababhai Bharwad, who donated crores for education
A new history of social harmony has been created in the land of Gujarat today. In a grand event organised at Lapkaman, Ahmedabad, brothers and sisters of the Kshatriya Thakor community from more than 45 villages of Patan district came together and performed the traditional ‘Mameru’ on the occasion of the wedding of the daughter of renowned philanthropist Shri Bababhai Kanjibhai Bharwad, forgetting the discrimination of caste and caste, and showing unity. It is worth mentioning that this is the first time that 42 communities of the Thakor community and the Jagirdar Darbar community have come together in North Gujarat to hold any social event, and this can be called a very big event politically and socially.
In the event, Bharatsinh Solanki, son of the former Minister of the Government of India and the leader of the community, Madhavsinh Solanki, Radhanpur MLA Lovingji Thakor, former chairman of Thakor Vikas Nigam, Nandaji Thakor, MLA Shri Amaratji Thakor, former MLA Shri Baldevji Thakor, Patan District BJP President Bharatbhai Arya, former MLA Shri Lakhabhai Bharwad, Navghanji Thakor, Vinaysinh Jhala of Sadaram Samiti, Mangaji Thakor, Dr. Manoj Thakor, Moghji Thakor, Vasanji, lawyer and social and political leaders were present at the event and the event was held according to the social constitution.
Former corporator of Ghatlodia, Shri Bababhai Bharwad, is known for his charitable works. He has donated crores of rupees from his personal funds for the education of girls from the Kshatriya Thakor community and other economically backward classes, especially in Patan Panthak, which includes important works like distributing tablets and bicycles. In response to the selfless work that Bababhai had done for the future of the children of the Thakor community, the Thakor community today considers his family’s event as their own and fills this ‘mameru’.
Approximately 2000 people participated in this program in a disciplined manner and proved that social harmony is possible not only in words but also in practice. Perhaps for the first time in history, it has happened that one community has blessed a daughter by filling a mameru at the house of a leader of another community according to the social constitution.
The event took place today. It was celebrated grandly on 20 February 2026 from 4-00 to 6-00 in the evening at ‘Kasumbal Ness’ located in Lapkaman, Ahmedabad. In which political and social leaders of both the communities were present in large numbers and expressed their resolve to further strengthen the social fabric of Gujarat.
