Newzdaddy Health And Fitness Updates

Synopsis of the Article

  • Initiative: Shaivi Patel, an 11th-grade volunteer with Visamo Kids Foundation, launched a fundraising campaign to provide cervical cancer vaccines to underprivileged girls.
  • Funds Raised: Shaivi raised ₹50,000 by selling VKF children’s paintings and ₹1 lakh through family and friends’ donations.
  • Impact: 37 girls have received their first vaccine dose, and 25 more will receive their second dose next month.
  • Personal Motivation: Shaivi’s mother’s breast cancer diagnosis in 2023 inspired her to take action against cancer.
  • VKF Support: Ami Shah, VKF’s Project Supervisor, praised Shaivi’s determination and encouraged wider support for the cause.
  • Global & National Alignment: The initiative supports WHO’s 90-70-90 goals and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to eliminate cervical cancer in India.
  • Cervical Cancer: The second most common cancer among Indian women, now preventable with the affordable CERVAVAC vaccine introduced in 2023.

16-year-old Shaivi Patel, a volunteer at the Visamo Kids Foundation (VKF), has started an ambitious goal to finance cervical cancer vaccines for impoverished girls in a touching story of compassion and determination. Her story demonstrates how, with perseverance and compassion, young people can bring about meaningful change. Shaivi’s campaign started out small, selling lovely paintings made by VKF kids to raise 50,000. Inspired by this accomplishment, she continued to work hard and raised an additional ₹1 lakh from donations from friends and relatives. Shaivi actively utilises her Instagram page to spread the word about cervical cancer and inspire others to support her cause, utilising the power of social media.

As a result of her initiative, the first dosage of the vaccine has already been administered to 37 girls. In the coming month, another twenty-five females will get their second dose. Shaivi’s work doesn’t end there, though; the fundraising campaign is still active and welcomes donations from kindhearted people. This cause is very personal to Shaivi. “I witnessed the emotional, physical, and financial toll that cancer can take on a family when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023,” she said. The fact that many families lack the funds for these procedures was devastating. I decided to act at that point. I’m using this contribution campaign to ensure that girls who might not otherwise have access to life-saving immunizations do. Even though I might only be a tiny drop in the ocean, every drop helps create a healthier society.

Everyone has expressed admiration for Shaivi’s efforts. According to VKF Project Supervisor Ami Shah, “Shaivi’s drive and will to change the world are incredibly motivating.” Her project serves as an example of how young people may take meaningful action to address urgent societal issues. We are honored to stand by her side and encourage others to join this important cause.

The World Health Organization’s (WHO) 90-70-90 targets for world health are perfectly aligned with Shaivi’s campaign. By 2030, these seek to screen 70% of women, vaccinate 90% of girls, and guarantee treatment for 90% of cases found. Her initiatives also help Prime Minister Narendra Modi achieve his goal of eradicating cervical cancer in India, which is still the second most frequent malignancy among women in the nation.

With the launch of the CERVAVAC vaccination in 2023, India has achieved tremendous progress against cervical cancer. This vaccine, which has been approved by the Drugs Controller General of India and is part of the country’s public health program, is accessible and reasonably priced, providing hope for a better future.

Despite being preventable and treated, cervical cancer is still a major problem. Numerous lives can be saved by early intervention through immunization, and programs like Shaivi’s are essential for increasing awareness and closing accessibility gaps. Shaivi’s tale serves as a reminder of the effectiveness of youth-led projects. She has changed the lives of numerous young girls by transforming her suffering into a mission of hope. But the journey is only getting started, and community support can help her cause have a greater impact.
