Brahmastra overcame the pattern of Bollywood films underperforming at the box office and the #boycott movement to become the movie with the second-largest opening in 2022, after KGF: Chapter 2, earning over Rs 174 Crore in its first week. Nevertheless, despite the film’s box office success, both the audience and critics have been harshly critiquing it for either its dialogue or its weak plot. Fans of Alia Bhatt are especially dissatisfied since, despite being a key character in the plot, she wasn’t given much to do in the movie.

Alia recently attended a movie promotion in Ahmedabad with her beau Ranbir Kapoor and Ayan Mukerji. When questioned about how she was responding to the criticism “Aage life hai ya nahi, yeh pata nhi par yeh life hai. There are two options available to you right now: either focus on the positive or the bad. (We don’t know whether we have a second life, but we do have this one. Therefore, we have two choices: either we are positive and concentrate on the good things, or we concentrate on the bad things.)” She went on to describe how the entire team responds to the critical feedback “Hum truly have Ek consensus Ke Saath bolte hai ki humara damage udhar Jaa hi nhi Raha hai, jab koi bhi negative question puchta hai. We all agree that we are not focusing on anyone who asks us a question that is critical of us.”

Respecting the viewpoints of the audience, Alia added, “The right of the audience is to offer feedback, criticism, and ideas. In the human race, hope exists in both the positive and sad aspects of our lives. Positive reviews for the movie’s debut have been received well, so far, according to box office results, voh nhi hota. (We hope the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. After the film’s debut, it appears that the pros outweigh the negatives—otherwise, it wouldn’t have performed so well at the box office.)”

Ayan mentioned that Brahmastra Part Two: Dev, the second book in the Astraverse trilogy, might be published by December 2025.
