The India Test Squad For West Indies Includes New Faces And A New Vice Captain.
India’s Test team for the West Indies series is announced by the BCCI, and Ravindra Jadeja is named vice captain.
After a terrible series against England, Karun Nair was benched, while Devdutt Padikkal was added to the team.
Karun Nair has been left out of India’s Test team for the two-match series against the West Indies, which begins on October 2 in Ahmedabad. After eight years, the 33-year-old was called up, but he was only able to score 205 runs at an average of 25.62 in four Test matches in England. Devdutt Padikkal of Karnataka, who has already participated in two Test matches, has been called up.
Despite Karun’s recent half-century at The Oval, top selector Ajit Agarkar stated that the team had higher expectations for the middle-order batsman and hence was not selected in the India Test Squad.
Yes, it goes without saying that we had higher expectations. I wish we could give everyone 15 or 20 tests because we think Padikkal gives a bit more now. Regretfully, that isn’t how it operates,” Agarkar informed reporters on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

Due to his extensive expertise, Ravindra Jadeja has been appointed as Shubman Gill’s deputy in the absence of Rishabh Pant for this series. After suffering a foot injury during the fourth Test match at Old Trafford in Manchester, Pant, the former vice captain of England, has not yet fully recovered. The 15-man team’s two wicketkeepers are Dhruv Jurel and N. Jagadeesan.
“Rishabh is currently the vice captain and an important member of the team. He hasn’t fully recovered, though, to appear in this specific series. We hope that he will be allowed to travel to South Africa. Jadeja has also been among your best performers. There is therefore a great deal of experience. Thus, that’s really the cause,” Agarkar clarified.
The speed assault includes Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna, while Gill’s spin-bowling options include Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel. Agarkar stated that the pace spearhead is available for both Tests of this series, despite the fact that Bumrah was only available for three of the five Test matches in England due to workload management.
“This squad is for both Tests. So, Bumrah is available for both games,” the former India fast bowler said.
