Critical Review: “Jai Kanhaiyalall Ki ”
“Jai Kanhaiyalall Ki” tells the story of a simple, honest man who has just retired from his service as an engineer and whose life turns upside down just days before his daughter’s wedding. Kanhaiyalall loses all his savings in a shocking bank scam. With no time, no money, and no support, he makes a decision that he never imagined. He plans a risky bank heist to save his family’s dignity. At the same time, a sharp and stubborn police officer starts sensing that something is not right, and he starts a thorough investigation. What follows is a tense race between a desperate father and the law.
The movie has only 2 songs, one of which is okay. When you have a person like Siddharth Randeria in the movie, people expect more comedy punches, which were missing. However, the first half of the movie does have a few comic punches, which were fine, but I was expecting more.
The whole first half of the movie is carried by Siddharth Randeria on his own shoulders, which is obvious. The second half becomes intense and interesting when Hitu Kanodia’s entry is there as Inspector Govardhan Rathod.
The movie I felt has been very few locations, nearly the whole movie is shot in a house and a police station.
The Storyline
The story moves on a strong emotional base and Gujarati family drama. It is not just about crime, but about survival, family pressure, and moral conflict. The wedding deadline adds urgency, making every scene feel important. The film balances emotions and suspense well, showing how a good man is pushed into a bad situation by a broken system. The storyline keeps you hooked, especially in the second half when secrets begin to unfold. The first 30 minutes of the movie are spent developing the characters.
The Acting
The lead role of Kanahaiyalall is played by Amitabh Bachchan of the Gujarati film industry, Siddharth Randeria, who delivers a powerful and unbelievable performance as he usually does. His fear, guilt, and determination feel real on the screen. You can feel his pain without loud dialogues. The police officer’s role is played by one of the superstars of Gujarati Films, Hitu Kanodia, whom he handled with confidence, showing firmness without becoming over-the-top. The audience moved to the edge of their seats once he appeared on the screen. His presence on the screen is excellent, and the dialogue delivery is top-notch.
The young Shery Maradiya has played the role of the son of Siddhart Randeria. He has a chocolate face, and he has always looked promising. He played his role with the utmost precision.
Aneri Vajani and Vaishalee Thakkar are making their debuts in the Gujarati film. They have a lot of experience working in Hindi TV serials. However, it did not feel that they had any problem speaking Gujarati. Their pronunciation was superb.
The expressions of Vaishalee Thakkar have equally matched those of Siddharth Randeria. The chemistry between these two actors is excellent on the screen.
Direction
The director keeps the film grounded and focused. There is no unnecessary drama or forced action. The emotional scenes are handled with care, while the suspense scenes are tight and sharp. The director successfully shows how ordinary people can be trapped by extraordinary problems.
I liked that one of the aerial shots of the bank showed the bank and the railway track which was excellent, as it has very significant importance later in the movie.
Cinematography
The camera work supports the mood of the film nicely. Wedding scenes are colourful and lively, while the scam and heist scenes are darker and tense. Close-up shots are used well to show emotions, especially Kanhaiyalal’s inner struggle. The visual contrast between celebration and fear is effective.
Screenplay
The screenplay is crisp and mostly well-paced. Dialogues are simple but meaningful. I was expecting more comedy punches at least for and from Siddharth Randeria. Some scenes could have been shorter, but overall, the writing keeps the tension alive. The back-and-forth between the wedding preparations and the police investigation works well and keeps the audience engaged.
Positive Points
- Strong emotional core centred on a father’s struggle.
- Convincing lead performance, especially from Siddharth Randeria and Hitu Kanodia.
- Good balance of suspense and drama.
- Realistic portrayal of financial scams.
- Engaging the second half with rising tension.
Negative Points
- A few predictable moments.
- Some supporting characters needed more depth.
- Slightly slow pace in the first half.
- Lack of comedy punches when you have Siddharth Randeria in the movie.
- Honestly, BGM was not able to create more panic and tension in the audience.
Newz Daddy’s Final Thoughts
“Jai Kanhaiyalal Ki” is a gripping drama-thriller that asks an important question. What happens when honesty is punished, and survival demands sacrifice? The film connects emotionally and keeps you guessing till the end. It may not be perfect, but it is sincere, engaging, and worth watching for its strong performances and meaningful story. There is also a strong message for society that honesty always pays back. God will always be there with you if you are walking on the right path.
