Kalorex Future School East Students Take Part in Fire Safety
Kalorex Future School East Ahmedabad Holds Fire Safety Drill for Students
Fire safety training took a practical turn for students at Kalorex Future School East, Ahmedabad, where a fire safety drill was conducted to teach children how to respond during an emergency.
The session covered basic fire safety rules, evacuation procedures, emergency response and the correct way to use a fire extinguisher. Students also took part in demonstrations designed to help them understand what they should do if a fire breaks out at school or in another public place.

The school is located on Maninagar-Mehmedabad Road near Hirapur Cross Roads in Ahmedabad. Kalorex Future School East offers education from kindergarten to Class 12 under the Gujarat State Board. Its public information also lists student safety as part of the school’s wider approach to student welfare.
During the drill, students were introduced to the steps involved in leaving a building safely during a fire. The emphasis was on following instructions, using the designated evacuation route and avoiding panic.
For children, such training can be useful because an emergency can create confusion even when they know the basic rules. A drill allows students to see how an evacuation works before they face a real situation.
Fire safety in educational buildings is covered by Indian standards. The Bureau of Indian Standards has a separate code of practice, IS 14435:2013, for fire safety in educational institutions. The standard covers fire safety requirements suited to schools and other educational buildings. It also refers to matters such as fire detection, alarms, extinguishers and safe movement out of buildings.
The National Building Code of India 2016 also contains a dedicated section on fire and life safety. Part 4 deals with fire prevention, protection and life safety, including requirements related to exits and the safe evacuation of people from buildings. Educational buildings are among the categories covered by the fire and life safety provisions.
A 2025 Bureau of Indian Standards document on safety and security guidelines for educational organisations lists several measures for fire readiness. These include working fire alarms, usable fire extinguishers, clear access to fire exits, visible evacuation plans and regular fire drills. The document recommends that fire drills be conducted once every quarter.
The use of fire extinguishers was an important part of the activity at Kalorex Future School East. Students were shown how the equipment is used, giving them a clearer understanding of the role of firefighting equipment during the early stages of an emergency.
However, fire safety training for children is not about asking students to fight a major fire. Their first responsibility during an emergency is to follow the school’s evacuation instructions and reach a safe location. Fire extinguishers are generally handled by trained adults or others who have been instructed in their safe use, depending on the situation.
The drill also focused on remaining calm. Panic can make an evacuation harder, particularly when many people are moving through corridors, stairways or exits at the same time. Students who understand where to go and whom to follow are better prepared to respond to instructions.
For schools, regular drills can also help staff examine their emergency arrangements. An evacuation exercise can reveal whether students know the nearest exit, whether routes remain clear and whether teachers can account for children after leaving a building.
Kalorex Future School East has previously described safety and student wellbeing as areas that form part of its school activities. The school’s published information refers to life-skills sessions, responsible behaviour and safety awareness among students.
The wider Kalorex Group, which operates schools and other education projects, says it has been active in the education sector since 1995. Its institutions include Kalorex Future School East in Ahmedabad along with other schools and education projects in Gujarat.
For students at the East Ahmedabad campus, the fire drill brought these safety lessons into a real school setting. Instead of learning emergency procedures only through classroom instructions, children could watch demonstrations and practise the basic response expected during a fire.
Schools are places where large numbers of children spend many hours each day. Their safety therefore depends on more than fire equipment being available. Staff need clear procedures, exits must remain accessible, emergency plans must be understood, and students need regular practice.
The Kalorex Future School East exercise placed those practical steps in front of students and staff. The immediate lesson was simple: know the alarm, follow instructions, leave through the safe route and remain calm.
For children, knowing what to do before an emergency happens can make a critical difference when every second matters.
