Two blockbusters from 2022 have made it onto the list of contenders for the 95th Academy Awards, bringing Kannada cinema to the attention of the Oscars.

Kantara by Rishab Shetty and Vikrant Rona by Anup Bhandari have both found a spot among the 301 feature films up for nomination, which will begin this week. These, however, do not represent India’s official Academy Award submission.

The actors eligible for nomination in the acting categories were included in The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’s January 10 announcement of the “Reminder List of Productions Eligible for the 95th Academy Awards.” RRR, The Kashmir Files, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Me Vasantrao, and All That Breathes are some of the other entries from Indian films on the list.

The two film’s filmmakers shared the news and their gratitude for the honor. Mr. Shetty expressed his sincere gratitude to his followers after receiving two “Oscar qualifiers” with great satisfaction.

The work of Mr. Bhandari has now appeared on the Oscars Reminder List twice. His debut movie Rangitaranga (2015) previously appeared on the list in 2016.
