According to New South African spinner Keshav Maharaj, Team India’s  Dinesh Karthik searches for runs in unusual places, which makes him difficult to bowl at. Karthik’s maiden fifty in the format was important in India tying the five-match T20I series in Rajkot on Friday.

With a strong showing in the IPL, the 37-year-old batsman has made yet another comeback for India.

Karthik, the Indian team’s designated finisher, has not relied on power-hitting to be effective. He has brilliantly navigated the field to achieve the required outcomes. He brushed the spinners and pacers with equal disdain on Friday, as well as pulled off spectacular reverse smashes.

“In the role he is playing, he (Karthik) has been in excellent shape. He is unquestionably one of the game’s top finishers. He scores in unexpected places, making him difficult to bowl at.

“We could see why he was one of the best players in the IPL.” After the fourth T20I, Maharaj observed, “He showed his class and played very well.”

After South Africa outplayed India in the first two matches. However, India had won the last two matches in a row.

The momentum is with India heading into Sunday’s showdown in Bengaluru. The team is looking forward to the challenge, according to Maharaj.

“We had a little of a lead in the first two, but India took control in the third and fourth.” It makes going to Bangalore even more thrilling; the crowds have been incredible thus far, and it will only add to the excitement.

“It’s also a fantastic test for our cricket team to see how far we’ve come in terms of playing in such tournaments and trying to win the series against a great Indian squad.”

He also lauded India’s Avesh Khan, who claimed four wickets for 18 runs.

“Avesh adapted really well and kept it really simple,” Maharaj said, adding that he was rewarded for his consistent and controlled bowling.
