Newz Daddy Educational Updates
The School of Criminal Law and Military Law (SCLML) at Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU)—an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India—is proud to announce the 2nd RRU International Moot Court Competition, 2025, scheduled from 14th to 16th November 2025 at the RRU Lavad campus.
Rashtriya Raksha University was established by Act No. 31 of 2020 and is designated as an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The university is located in Lavad (Dehgam), Gandhinagar district of Gujarat. This setting reinforces RRU’s role in national security, law, and policing education, making it an apt venue for such an international moot event.
Building on the resounding success of its inaugural edition in 2024, this prestigious international moot brings together brilliant young legal minds from across the world to deliberate and advocate on the theme:
“International Law and Global Security.”
The inaugural edition (2024) of the RRU International Moot Court Competition focused on “Global Economic and Financial Security Law” and featured top law schools, memorial rounds and oral rounds, with significant participation. By pivoting to “International Law and Global Security” for the 2025 edition, the event reflects evolving global challenges and aligns with RRU’s strategic focus on security, law and diplomacy.
The competition will simulate proceedings before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), offering participants an intellectually challenging platform to argue complex legal issues such as:
● Admissibility of claims when a State represents corporations before the ICJ
● Remedies for sanctioned third-country entities under international law
● Trade of dual-use items under international law
● Non-compliance with judgments of international courts
These themes are highly relevant in today’s global security environment where state responsibility, corporate representation, sanctions regimes, trade-control of dual-use items, and enforcement of international judgments are increasingly important. RRU’s brochure for 2025 explicitly mentions such issues in its proposition. The simulation of ICJ-style proceedings gives students exposure to international law practice, research, advocacy and the workings of large international tribunals.
The teams, including representatives from leading international universities across multiple UN regions, there will be 42 Judges, 24 teams, 72 participants, and 12 coaches participating. International students from Utopia*, Nepal, and Bangladesh will also be participating during the event. The event aims to foster cross-border dialogues on contemporary issues that are related to global security, promote the study of international law, and strengthen cooperation among law students worldwide for enhancing global peace through law.
Moot court competitions globally serve as powerful platforms for networking, skill-building, and exposure to international peers and legal cultures. RRU emphasises this in its materials. The inclusion of teams from multiple UN regions reflects the university’s and the competition’s aim to go beyond India and become globally relevant. Also, offering qualified judges and experienced coaches ensures high standard of adjudication and meaningful feedback. In the inaugural edition twelve international teams or so participated, showing growing reach.
The inauguration ceremony will be graced by eminent dignitaries from judiciary, legal academicians and practitioners of international law. The three-day event will also feature keynote addresses and expert panel discussions led by distinguished judges, diplomats, and academicians, including members of the United Nations International Law Commission and the Indian Judiciary.
For the 2024 edition, notable names from the higher judiciary and national legal establishment were present, including a judge of the Supreme Court of India. Such presence adds prestige and learning value for participants. Panel discussions and keynotes on international and global security law help bridge academic theory with policy and practice. These exposure opportunities are valuable for students aspiring for careers in international law. The competition brochure emphasises “distinguished judges and speakers” as a feature.
Awards and Recognition
Participants will compete for prestigious titles and attractive prizes:
Winner: ₹90,000
Runner-Up: ₹70,000
Best Speaker: ₹40,000
Best Memorial: ₹50,000
Moot competitions often use financial incentives to attract top teams and enhance competition quality. The 2024 edition had cash prizes and internship opportunities which boosted participation. These prizes at RRU serve as motivation for competitors and also reflect the seriousness of the event. The “Best Memorial” award emphasises both written and oral advocacy, balancing research and presentation skills. In a unique initiative to encourage global inclusivity, the competition also offers scholarships worth USD 1000 each to the top eight international teams.
Such scholarships are important in reducing financial barriers for teams from less-resourced countries and promoting diversity of participation. The 2025 brochure outlines global participation and emphasises this inclusive approach. Many international moot courts now integrate scholarships and travel grants to ensure representation from all regions. The event is a testament to RRU’s mission to cultivate legal professionals who embody analytical acumen, advocacy excellence, and a commitment to advancing both national and global security. It aligns with the University’s vision of being a premier center of knowledge dedicated to fostering a peaceful, prosperous, and stable world order.
According to RRU’s FAQs and institutional description, the university’s vision is “To emerge as a premier centre of knowledge – University of National Importance, for international and national stakeholders seeking peaceful, prosperous and stable world order.” The SCLML’s role includes preparing legal professionals with specialisation in criminal law, military law, national security law and international law. The moot court competition is therefore closely aligned with institutional goals. The 2nd RRU International Moot Court Competition, 2025 promises to be a confluence of intellect, law, and diplomacy, celebrating the spirit of justice and the pursuit of peace through law.
Mooting culture in Indian law schools has been growing rapidly and competitions like this one help students gain exposure to international legal norms and enhance employability, research and advocacy skills. RRU’s leveraging of its national-security mandate with a global outlook makes this competition a unique platform.
