Locals Protest Against Proposed Makarpura Dumping Site

Locals held a rally in the Makarpura area of Ahmedabad to protest against the planned dumping site.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to build a dumping site in the Makarpura area, covering over 20,000 square yards. Three schools are located within 50 meters of this dumping site. Over 5,000 children study in these schools. Also, around 50,000 people live near this planned dumping site. Locals are asking a big question: how can a dumping site be built right in the middle of a place where people live? The locals say that while the Prime Minister runs the Swachhta Abhiyan (Cleanliness Campaign), this site was approved without asking the opinion of any residents.

Because of this, more than 2,000 locals went to the Ahmedabad Corporation office on October 7th and protested loudly. At that time, the Deputy Municipal Commissioner and the Chairman of the Standing Committee promised verbally to move the dumping site to another place. But since no written order has been given till now, the locals organized a rally today. A large number of women, men, and youth joined this rally.

The locals said that their protest will continue until a written order is given to move the dumping site to another location. They also said that they will plan surprising events in the coming days.

Local leaders Prof. I.H. Mansuri, Ejazbhai, Yunus Mansuri, Sameer Mansuri, Firozkhan Belim, and Sarfaraz Chauhan led this rally. Leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) like Rakesh Maheriya, Jitendra Upadhyay, Jitendra Kalal, Neel Yadav, Bhagirath Palsana, Dhaval Thakkar, Pawan Shah, Prakash Vaghela, Dharmendra, and other AAP workers also joined the rally. Social workers Shubham Thakkar, Anil Dafda, and their supporters also attended the rally.
