Critical Review: Gujarati Movie “Maharani ” –
The Gujarati movie “Maharani” is the remake of the Marathi movie “Naach Ga Ghuma” This was one of the very successful movies of the Marathi Film Industry, which was released in 2024.
The “Maharani” movie is the story of every working woman and their maids, it’s like “Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki”. This movie is also about the stories inside a home.
There is one woman (Manasi) played by Manasi Parekh and the maid (Rani) played by Shraddha Dangar. Manasi hires Rani as a maid to help her right from the beginning of her new home in Mumbai. The entire film focuses on these two characters. There are also a few very important characters, such as husband of Manasi and her mother in-law, the mother and daughter of Manasi. These characters add a great flavour to the story and create a lot of comedy in the movie.
The writing of the movie is excellent, kudos to both writers.
The story definitely resonates with today’s life of a working woman and the maid. The scenes feel so natural, like they are happening in your own home. The conversations between the maid and the working woman feel real.
The comedy is natural and situational and hence creates laughter and humour.
Let’s Talk About The Story
Mansi is a working woman who has hired Shraddha Dangar as her maid. The maid has a sharp tongue. If Mansi says something, then Rani will definitely retaliate directly on Manasi’s face, not in a rude manner, but in a sarcastic way. Mansi doesn’t like this, so she fires Rani from her job.
But what happens after Rani leaves the job, and how Manasi finds a new maid, and what is the situation of the poor husband, how both try to handle their job, house chores and their daughter, you will find all the answers once you watch the movie.
The Maharani movie is able to send a very significant message to society, and that is also one of the vital points of the movie.
Performance of the Cast
I have been a very big fan of all three lead characters of the movie, Manasi Parekh, Shraddha Danger and Ojas Raval.
There is one scene where Rani (Shraddha) is walking in a small lane towards her house, the camera was not on her front side, it was on the back side. Even though the camera was not on her face, she was walking as a maid would, so naturally. The expression, the guilt, the anger, the laughter, the smile, the anxiousness, and the fear all seemed very natural to her. She is too good an actor.
You will feel the connection with her character of Rani.
Same thing with Manasi, a national award-winning actor, so natural. Wonderful performance in every scene, talking with her eyes, her facial expression and body language, too impressive.
Ojas Raval is a comedian, and he has got lot of punches in the movie to punch the audience with laughter, and he delivers them so smoothly. It seems that it is so easy for him, so easy.
Having said that, I cannot overlook the performance of other characters in the movie, especially Sanjay Goradia, the daughter Tania and the rest of the artists have also performed exceedingly well.
Positive Points
- The story resonates completely with the audience.
- The writing and dialogue are excellent.
- The title song, “Maharani Maharani Maharani” is good.
- The music of Parth Bharat Thakkar adds the flavour.
- Excellent performance by all the lead actors, especially Manasi, Shraddha and Ojas.
- Good Direction by Viral Shah.
- No profanity or abusive language. A complete family entertainer movie.
Negative Points
- I felt that the climax was a little bit abrupt.
- Also, the length seems a bit long could have been 10 to 15 minutes shorter.
- Too much of advertisements of different products, Varamora, Vivel, Amul, McDonald’s etc. I felt that these brands are also the producers, the way they have been promoted in the movie throughout.
Final Thoughts
Maharani movie is a special movie that resonates with every woman of today who manages both their job and house. A fun-filled movie supported by excellent performances by all the lead actors. A must-watch movie with full family.
