Who Can Donate Bone Marrow?
The doctors of Marengo CIMS Hospital have appealed and urged to the citizens to come forward and donate their bone marrow so that we can create a data bank of bone marrow. This will help to treat the patients who are suffering from bone marrow cancer. This is a great service of humanity to help humans live long and a better life.
Anyone who is above 5 years of age and below 65 can donate bone marrow, irrespective of whether the donor has complications of any disease, such as diabetes, obesity, etc.
The process of donating the bone marrow is one day only. The donor may need to take the rest of one more day to see if he/she is having any complications after donation.
Any Side effects of Bone Marrow Donation?
The Bone marrow donation is generally safe, but donors can experience some side effects, which are fatigue, pain or soreness at the donation site (hip or back), and muscle pain. Other potential side effects include headache, bruising, and nausea. Most side effects are mild and temporary, resolving within a few weeks.
In the past two years, the department of bone marrow transplants has successfully performed high-risk transplants, including haploidentical (half-match) transplants, matched unrelated donor (MUD) transplants, and allogeneic full-match transplants.
