Meghna Sanghani Set for Gujarati Garba Debut This Navratri
Meghna Sanghani to Feature in Gujarati Garba Song ‘Gherdar Ghammariya’ This Navratri
Actress and dancer Meghna Sanghani is set to appear in the Gujarati Garba song ‘Gherdar Ghammariya’ during this year’s Navratri. The song has been produced by Pixel Pop Media and released on the Saregama platform.
For Sanghani, the song marks her entry into the Gujarati entertainment field as an actress and dancer. The track brings together Garba dance, Gujarati dress and a contemporary music video format.
Sanghani appears in traditional Gujarati costumes in the song and performs Garba as part of the video. Her acting, dance and expressions form a major part of the presentation.
The song has been directed and choreographed by Prince Gupta. Singer Jahnvi Shrimankar has provided the vocals, while Kedar-Bhargav have composed the music. Parth Tarpara has written the lyrics.
Speaking about the song, Meghna Sanghani said, “‘Gherdar Ghammariya’ is not just a song for me, but a new beginning in my life. Dance and acting have always been close to my heart, and now I have received the opportunity to present them to the audience on a larger scale. I want people to know not only ‘Gherdar Ghammariya’, but also recognise me as an artist and connect with my work.”
She also spoke about the link between her first major Gujarati music release and Navratri.
“Every Gujarati has a special emotional connection with Navratri and Garba. So, starting this new phase with a Garba song is very special for me. Working with Prince Gupta was an amazing experience. Jahnvi Shrimankar’s voice, Kedar-Bhargav’s music and Parth Tarpara’s lyrics have given this song its energy. Getting the chance to bring that energy alive on screen has been a memorable experience for me,” she said.
For Gujarat, the choice of Garba for a new entertainment release carries a wider cultural meaning. UNESCO added Garba of Gujarat to its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in December 2023. The decision was taken at the 18th session of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Kasane, Botswana.
The Government of India said at the time that Garba became the 15th cultural element from India to be added to the UNESCO list.
UNESCO describes Garba as a devotional dance linked with Navratri and the worship of Shakti. The dance is traditionally performed around a central lamp or an image of the goddess. People move in a circle, often while singing and clapping together. The tradition is practised by people of different ages and backgrounds.
Garba has also changed over time. UNESCO notes that new dance styles, songs and clothing have become part of the tradition while its central connection with Shakti remains. This has allowed Garba to remain part of both community celebrations and newer forms of performance.
That change can also be seen in the way Garba is presented through music videos and popular entertainment. Traditional clothing, dance movements and Gujarati lyrics can now be combined with studio production, recorded music and video formats aimed at audiences beyond local Garba venues.
Gujarat Tourism describes Navratri as a nine-night festival during which people gather in villages, neighbourhoods, cities and large open spaces for Garba and related celebrations. Ahmedabad and Vadodara are among the major centres for Navratri celebrations in the state.
Against this background, ‘Gherdar Ghammariya’ enters the market at a time when Garba remains closely linked with Gujarat’s cultural life and is also reaching audiences through digital platforms.
Akshay Sing, Director of Pixel Pop Media, said the team wanted to present ‘Gherdar Ghammariya’ as a Garba song with a large-scale visual treatment. He said Sanghani’s acting, dance and expressions were important parts of the video and pointed to her screen presence and connection with Garba.
The production brings together performers and technicians from different parts of the Gujarati music and entertainment sector. Prince Gupta has handled both direction and choreography, giving him responsibility for the way the dance and performers appear on screen. Jahnvi Shrimankar’s vocals form the main singing element, while Kedar-Bhargav and Parth Tarpara have handled the music and lyrics.
For Sanghani, the release also allows her to introduce herself to Gujarati audiences through two areas she has chosen to pursue: acting and dance. Her role in the song places both skills at the centre of the video rather than presenting her only as a singer or performer.
The song is expected to be part of the entertainment around Navratri 2026, when Garba events take place across Gujarat. Its release also comes after Garba received international cultural recognition through UNESCO, giving the traditional dance a wider place in discussions about Gujarat’s cultural identity.
‘Gherdar Ghammariya’ therefore brings together a familiar Gujarati festival tradition and a current music-video format. For Meghna Sanghani, it is the first major release in this new phase of her work, with the song placing her acting and dance before a Gujarati audience during one of the state’s biggest annual festivals.
