Dhoni’s Reputation for Integrity Aligns with the Company’s Customer-First Business Approach.

Malabar Gold & Diamonds has appointed former India cricket captain MS Dhoni as its brand ambassador, beginning what the jewellery retailer describes as a long-term partnership focused on trust, transparency and responsible business practices. The announcement comes as jewellery buyers in India and overseas are paying closer attention to product quality, certified purity and clear pricing before making high-value purchases.

The company said the partnership will support its long-standing “Responsible Jeweller” programme, which brings together its customer policies, sourcing standards and quality commitments. The campaign is expected to run across television, newspapers, digital platforms, social media, radio, cinemas, outdoor advertising and retail outlets. It will reach customers through more than 450 Malabar Gold & Diamonds stores operating in several countries.

Founded in 1993, Malabar Gold & Diamonds has grown into one of the world’s largest jewellery retailers. The company says it is now the fourth largest jewellery retailer globally. Over the past three decades, organised jewellery chains have expanded rapidly in India as customers have increasingly preferred branded retailers that provide certified products, documented pricing and formal after-sales services. Industry analysts have noted that rising incomes, urbanisation and growing awareness about gold purity have encouraged this shift from many unorganised sellers to established jewellery brands.

According to the company, its Responsible Jeweller programme covers several areas of its business. These include ethical sourcing, responsible manufacturing, transparent pricing, quality assurance and customer service. It also brings together what the company calls its Malabar Promises. These include 100 per cent BIS Hallmarked jewellery, 28 quality checks for every natural diamond, transparent pricing without hidden charges, guaranteed buyback, lifetime maintenance, complimentary insurance, exchange programmes and responsible sourcing practices.

Hallmarking has become an important issue in India’s jewellery market. The Bureau of Indian Standards has gradually expanded mandatory hallmarking requirements to improve consumer protection and reduce the sale of jewellery with incorrect purity claims. For buyers, hallmark certification serves as proof that gold jewellery meets recognised purity standards.

The appointment of Dhoni reflects a wider trend in the jewellery industry, where leading retailers work with well-known personalities to strengthen consumer confidence. Celebrity endorsements have long been part of India’s jewellery market, particularly during wedding and festive seasons, when demand traditionally increases. Companies often select public figures whose image matches the values they want to present to customers.

Dhoni remains one of India’s most recognised sporting personalities. He is the only captain in international cricket to have led India to victory in all three ICC white ball tournaments. During his international career, he guided India to the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007, the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011 and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Even after retiring from international cricket, he continues to attract strong public support through the Indian Premier League, where he represents Chennai Super Kings.

Announcing the partnership, Malabar Group Chairman M.P. Ahammad said changing consumer expectations had influenced the company’s approach.

“Consumers today expect more from the brands they choose. Beyond exceptional products, they seek transparency, authenticity and confidence in every purchase. We believe the jewellery industry has a responsibility to meet these expectations through ethical business practices, uncompromising quality and a customer-first approach. That belief has shaped Malabar Gold & Diamonds for over 33 years and continues to guide every decision we make.

MS Dhoni has earned the respect and trust of millions through his integrity, discipline and consistency, qualities that resonate deeply with our own values. We are delighted to welcome him to the Malabar family and look forward to inspiring greater confidence in jewellery buying while reinforcing our commitment to responsible business practices.”

Dhoni said the company’s emphasis on responsible practices influenced his decision to join the brand.

“Throughout my career, I have believed that trust is earned through actions and consistency. That is what makes this association with Malabar Gold & Diamonds meaningful for me.

What resonated with me was the brand’s unwavering commitment to transparency, responsibility and customer confidence. I look forward to supporting Malabar Gold & Diamonds in encouraging more people to make informed jewellery-buying decisions and choose with confidence.”

The announcement comes at a time when India’s jewellery sector continues to evolve. Consumers increasingly compare certified purity, exchange value, service policies and documented pricing before making purchases. Digital research has also made it easier for buyers to compare brands and understand quality standards before visiting a showroom.

For Malabar Gold & Diamonds, the partnership with Dhoni is expected to strengthen public awareness of its customer policies while supporting its presence in domestic and international markets. For consumers, the announcement places renewed attention on issues such as hallmark certification, responsible sourcing, product quality and transparent pricing, all of which have become important factors in today’s jewellery buying decisions.
