Pedal to Plant Campaign Ends with Historic Green Triumph

Arunachal Pradesh to Mundra: ‘Pedal to Plant’ Campaign Concludes with a Warm Welcome at Adani House

Inspiring 4,600 km cycle journey completes successfully: Everest conqueror Nisha Kumari and her team receive a grand and enthusiastic welcome in Mundra.  The extraordinary journey, led by renowned mountaineer Nisha Kumari and including 8-year-old Niksha Barot, concludes triumphantly at Adani Ports.  The primary objective of the campaign is to make India greener by planting more than 100,000 trees.  The cycling expedition promotes tree plantation and environmental awareness under the powerful slogan “Change Before Climate Change.”

Adani House, Mundra, the Bagpiper Band of Adani Public School, joined by an enthusiastic group of 75 students, extended a warm welcome to Ms Nisha Kumari, Mr Nilesh Barot, and young Nixa Barot upon the successful conclusion of their inspiring ‘Pedal to Plant’ campaign expedition. The event was graced by Chief Guest Mr Nitin Saini (Commissioner of Customs, Mundra), accompanied by Mr Rakshit Shah (Executive Director, APSEZ), Mr Sujal Shah (CEO, Adani Ports Mundra), Mrs Ami Shah (Director, Adani Public School), and Mr Hemant Kumar (Principal, Adani Public School).

Such public welcomes are often organised to honour achievements that carry a strong social message. In recent years, India has seen a growing number of environmental campaigns that combine physical endurance with awareness building. When students are involved in these events, it helps pass on the values of fitness, discipline, and care for nature at an early age. Music, participation, and public appreciation make the message stronger and more memorable for young minds.

The team of three—Ms. Nisha Kumari, Mr Nilesh Barot, and 8-year-old Nixa Barot completed an extraordinary journey of over 4,600 km from Arunachal Pradesh to Mundra, spreading awareness about environmental conservation, sustainable living, and active lifestyles in strong support of the Fit India Movement. The core mission of the campaign is to make India greener by planting more than 100,000 trees while inspiring students, youth, and citizens across the nation to contribute to a healthier and more sustainable future.

Long-distance cycling campaigns have become a powerful tool to draw attention to climate and health issues. Cycling reduces carbon emissions and promotes fitness, making it an ideal symbol for sustainable living. Campaigns linked to the Fit India Movement encourage people to adopt daily physical activity while understanding its wider benefits. Tree plantation drives also play a key role in fighting air pollution, improving soil quality, and supporting wildlife, especially in fast-growing urban and industrial areas.

Led by renowned Indian mountaineer and environmental ambassador Everester Nisha Kumari—one of the few Indian women to have summited Mount Everest and other global peaks, and a rare achiever of the challenging India-to-London endurance journey—the expedition was expertly guided by Cycling Coach and Environmental Activist Mr Nilesh Barot. A standout highlight was the participation of 8-year-old Nixa Barot, powerfully demonstrating that fitness, discipline, and environmental consciousness can begin at any age.

Mountaineers often become strong voices for environmental protection because they witness climate change closely in high-altitude regions. Melting glaciers and changing weather patterns are visible signs that leave a lasting impact on climbers. When such achievers speak about climate action, their message carries greater weight. The involvement of a young child further strengthens the campaign, reminding society that the future generation will live with the results of today’s actions.

The choice of Mundra Port as the endpoint is particularly fitting, as it exemplifies leadership in sustainability: Adani Ports is recognised as one of the greenest port operators globally, with ongoing initiatives including massive mangrove afforestation and tree plantations to increase green cover, electrification of port equipment to reduce fossil fuel use, and a strong shift towards renewable energy with a goal of net-zero emissions in the near future.

Ports and large industrial zones play a major role in environmental responsibility. Green initiatives at such locations help reduce pollution while setting examples for other industries. Mangroves, in particular, are vital for coastal protection as they prevent erosion and support marine life. Renewable energy use and electric equipment further lower carbon footprints and support national climate goals.

The arrival at Mundra marks not only the triumphant end of this historic cycling feat but also the culmination of a meaningful national movement, reinforcing the shared vision of a Greener, Fitter, and Stronger India.

Mr Nilesh Barot shared that the journey focused on spreading awareness about tree plantation, climate change, and fitness, while also highlighting the importance of dedication and perseverance. His remarks reflect a wider belief that individual efforts, when repeated across communities, can create real change.

Executive Director of APSEZ, Mr Rakshit Shah, reaffirmed the Adani Group’s commitment to sustainability, which aligns with national and global environmental goals. Following the felicitation ceremony, the symbolic tree plantation carried out by all key participants served as a fitting and meaningful close to the expedition, turning words into action and leaving behind a living reminder of the campaign’s purpose.
