PM Narendra Modi Explains His Decision to “Politely Decline” Donald Trump’s Invitation to Dinner: “Thank You, But…”

PM Modi said that he had declined US President Donald Trump’s invitation to a dinner meeting in Washington, opting instead to visit Odisha.

“I was in Canada for the G7 Summit just two days ago,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated at a public gathering in Bhubaneswar. “Since you are in Canada, come via Washington,” US President Trump told me over the phone when I was there. Let’s chat over supper. He was really insistent when he issued the invitation.

According to Modi, he politely turned down the offer. “Thank you for the invitation,” I said to the US President. However, it is crucial that I visit the country of Mahaprabhu (Odisha),” Modi remarked, alluding to Puri’s hallowed Jagannath Temple.

Addressing the throng, the Prime Minister said, “I came to this land because of your love and devotion to Mahaprabhu.”

At a rally in Odisha, PM Modi attacks the Congress.

Speaking at a public gathering to commemorate the first anniversary of the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Odisha, Modi also attacked the Congress, saying it intentionally kept tribal groups in substandard conditions and referred to their areas as the “red corridor” for political purposes.

The four gates of the Puri Jagannath temple and its ‘Ratna Bhandar’ (treasury) have been reopened, he said, marking the BJP’s fulfilment of the people’s long-awaited expectations.

Modi made reference to the Congress when he remarked, “The party that ruled India for decades had neglected the tribal community and used them merely for political benefits.”

Tribal-dominated areas were “intentionally left backwards” under the past regimes, according to the PM.

For years, Maoists impacted more than 125 districts in the nation that were dominated by tribes. These places were derogatorily referred to as “red corridors.” According to Modi, the majority of these districts were deemed backwards, and the administrations of the day failed to assume responsibility for their development.

Additionally, he claimed that under the Congress government, India lacked effective governance.
PM Modi praises the Odisha BJP government.

“Today is a very special day,” Modi remarked, praising the work done by the current Odisha administration in its first year in office. Odisha’s first BJP government has effectively finished its first year in office. This is the anniversary of the formation of good governance, not merely the government.

The prime minister went on to say that “public service and public trust” were the focus of the last year of the BJP government.

He stressed that serving the people and gaining their trust have been the only priorities of the BJP government in Odisha.

“The government has completed one year with good governance and public services,” he stated.

Modi asserted that the BJP government had worked to address the issues in Odisha, claiming that the state had seen “corruption, no infrastructure development, while many regions remained backwards under previous regimes.”
