Raid 2 Movie Review: Same Raid, New Drama — But Does It Work?
Ajay Devgn returns as Amay Patnaik, but is it a strong comeback or just another safe bet? Let’s break it down.
If you’ve seen the first Raid, you already know the drill. A no-nonsense Income Tax officer walks into a corrupt politician’s house, raids it, and uncovers hidden wealth. Raid 2 tries to follow the same formula — only this time, the raid is at the house of a powerful and beloved political figure, Dada Bhai, played by the talented Riteish Deshmukh.
Just like before, it’s Amay Patnaik’s 75th raid, and he’s already seized ₹4200 crores in his previous 74. But this time, things are more complicated — Dada Bhai is seen as a saviour of the poor, worshipped by his community. So how do you raid a man who’s considered a God by his people?
Ajay Devgn’s cool, calm, and collected officer avatar is back — sharp, focused, and full of style. If you liked him in Raid, you’ll enjoy his screen presence again. But the surprise element here is Riteish Deshmukh. As Dada Bhai, he delivers a strong and impactful performance in a rare negative role, and at times, even overshadows Ajay in the first half.
The movie starts off a bit too simply, almost slowly. With two unnecessary songs before the interval, the momentum drops. But as the story progresses, the twists start to unfold. The suspense builds slowly, but not with the cleverness that the first film had. The second half picks up the pace, and that’s where the real game begins — Amay vs. Dada Bhai.
Adding to the mix is actor Amit Sial, who enters as another officer in a light-hearted, comic way. He brings a breath of fresh air to the otherwise serious tone of the movie.
Let’s be honest — if you can guess what will happen in every next scene, is it really a suspense movie? That’s the biggest problem with Raid 2. It doesn’t surprise you. There’s no shocking twist, no mind-blowing reveal.
Worse, the writing feels lazy. The first part was smart and gripping, but boring and it feels like movie is dragging you without your permission. They had a great character in Dada Bhai and a golden chance to make him a layered villain, but somewhere after the interval, his character is sidelined just to make Ajay Devgn shine brighter.
Even Supriya Pathak, a powerful actor capable of stealing scenes (remember her in Ram-Leela?), is wasted in a role that goes nowhere.
There’s one area where Raid 2 scores — it’s a clean, family-friendly film. No abuses, no vulgar scenes, and a simple, understandable story. For casual viewers, it’s an easy watch with some dramatic moments and a familiar face.
But for cinema lovers who expect a strong script, clever storytelling, and real suspense, the film falls short, very short. It feels like a movie made only to cash in on the success of the original.
Tamannaah’s item number is flashy but feels out of place. It’s the typical “mass masala” moment inserted for glam, not story. It doesn’t help the movie, and honestly, it feels like a distraction.
Negative Points
- Predictable plot, weak suspense, and wasted potential of strong characters.

Final Thought
Just putting “2” in the title doesn’t make a film twice as good. Raid 2 proves that. It had the chance to be a powerful thriller, but it ended up being just an average sequel. If you’re in the mood for light family entertainment, go for it.
