Mistry is the Indian adaptation of the highly regarded American television series Monk, which was produced by Banijay Asia in collaboration with Universal International Studios and directed by Rishab Seth. In the show, Mona Singh plays the bold and astute companion of Ram Kapoor’s character, Armaan Mistry, the charmingly eccentric investigator. Shikha Talsania plays the vibrant Sharanya, and Kshitish Date plays the resolute police officer Bunty. They are joined by a diverse ensemble cast. When combined, they create a surreal universe in which case after case is more bizarre than the previous and nothing is ever quite what it seems. Mistry promises to be a genre-bending experience quite unlike anything you’ve ever seen, with equal parts suspense, humour, and multi-layered storytelling.
In expressing his enthusiasm, director Rishab Seth stated, “Mistry was never intended to be a traditional detective show—it’s a thriller that doesn’t take itself too seriously but keeps one invested and on the edge of their seats.” I was captivated by the show’s strong emphasis on characters. Yes, Armaan Mistry is eccentric, but he’s also completely brilliant and incredibly insightful. The show’s central conflict is this contradiction. I will always remember the incredible experience I had leading Ram and Mona.
“Armaan is among the most peculiar and captivating characters I’ve ever portrayed,” stated Ram Kapoor, who plays Armaan Mistry. In addition to his peculiarities, he uses them as coping strategies. It’s how he brings order to a chaotic environment. Nevertheless, he is the one who enters a chaotic situation and manages to discover clarity. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career to work on this project and accept Mistry. Strange, entertaining, erratic, and soulful is Mistry. I am excited for JioHotstar to introduce him to the public.
About her performance as Sehmat, Mona Singh said, “Sehmat is strong, self-assured, and crucial to how the story unfolds.” She challenges Armaan, balances him, and occasionally even outsmarts him rather than avoiding his peculiarities. She is an anchor with a sharp edge, and her motivations are. Since the characters in Mistry are so shamelessly themselves, you laugh, think, and then laugh some more. That’s what I believe the audience will remember.
Shikha Talsania went on to say, “Sharanya is feisty, intelligent, and unadulterated. She infuses Mistry’s world with a distinct energy that either grounds or fuelled the chaos.” I was able to develop a lot as an actor because of this production. A good thriller has always been my favourite, but it was a huge rush to add this type of humour and frenetic unpredictability. It’s really thrilling to be part of a squad that is prepared to play both on and off camera. That is what Ram, Mona, and Kshitish had to do with our entertaining director Rishab, we had to play! I can’t wait for Mistry to launch on JioHotstar.
