Repertus 2K26 IITRAM builds strong skills and inspires young engineers

The Department of Civil Engineering at the Institute of Infrastructure, Technology, Research and Management (IITRAM), Ahmedabad, inaugurated Repertus 2K26, the institute’s National Level Civil Engineering Tech Fest, on Thursday at the IITRAM campus. The three-day event continued till March 14, 2026.

The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Shri P. K. Jain, Director General of IITRAM; Prof. M. K. Barua, Director of IITRAM; and Dr Jayshankar Odhwani, Deputy Secretary at the Administrative Reforms and Training Department under the General Administration Department, Government of Gujarat, who attended as the Chief Guest. Mr Mukesh Shah, Director at CC Patel & Associates Pvt. Ltd., graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. The event is being coordinated by Dr Manoj Langhi, Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Faculty Coordinator for Repertus 2K26, in the presence of Dr Jaidevi Jeyaraman, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering.

Such events often reflect how engineering education in India is shifting from classroom-based learning to more practical, industry-focused exposure. Institutes like IITRAM are increasingly working to bridge the gap between theory and real-world application, which is important as India continues to invest heavily in infrastructure such as roads, bridges, metro systems and smart cities. Gujarat itself has seen strong growth in infrastructure projects, making such technical fests highly relevant for students preparing to enter the field.

A major highlight of the first day was KBCE – Kaun Banega Civil Engineer, an engaging quiz competition inspired by the popular television format, where participants tested their knowledge of civil engineering concepts, infrastructure, and technical problem-solving. The event attracted enthusiastic participation from students and stood out as one of the most engaging activities of the day.

Quiz-based learning has become a popular method in technical education because it encourages quick thinking and helps students revise key concepts in a fun way. Civil engineering, in particular, requires strong fundamentals in areas like structural design, materials, and environmental engineering. Activities like KBCE help students build confidence while also sharpening their decision-making skills under pressure.

Another key attraction was ANSYS Tech Day, which introduced participants to advanced engineering simulation tools and their practical applications in infrastructure and structural analysis. The day also featured hands-on workshops on MS Excel, STAAD Pro, Revit, and Primavera P6, providing students with exposure to essential industry tools used in design, planning, and project management.

These tools are widely used across the construction and infrastructure sector. For example, STAAD Pro helps engineers analyse and design structures, while Revit is commonly used for Building Information Modelling, allowing teams to plan projects in a digital 3D environment. Primavera P6 is often used by large companies for project scheduling and cost control. Early exposure to such software gives students a strong advantage when they step into professional roles, as companies now expect graduates to be job-ready from day one.

Repertus 2K26 has been envisioned as a platform to bring together students, academicians, and professionals to engage with contemporary developments in civil engineering and infrastructure. The fest featured several technical competitions, workshops, and interactive sessions.

This kind of interaction is important because civil engineering is constantly evolving. New materials, sustainable construction practices, and smart infrastructure solutions are becoming more common. Students need to understand not just traditional methods but also modern techniques such as green building design, waste management systems, and climate-resilient infrastructure. Events like Repertus help create awareness about these changes in a simple and practical way.

In addition to the technical activities, the fest featured a cultural evening organised in collaboration with SPIC MACAY, celebrating India’s classical heritage.

Blending technical learning with cultural experiences helps create a balanced environment for students. SPIC MACAY is known for promoting Indian classical music and arts among young people, and such collaborations remind students of the importance of cultural roots even as they pursue modern careers. It also helps reduce stress and builds a sense of community on campus.

Through Repertus, IITRAM aims to provide a platform where young engineers can exchange ideas, interact with professionals, and explore innovative approaches to the infrastructure challenges of the future.

As India moves towards rapid urban development, the role of young engineers will become even more important. Platforms like Repertus not only inspire students but also prepare them to think creatively and responsibly. By combining knowledge, practical skills, and cultural understanding, such initiatives contribute to shaping engineers who can build not just structures, but also a stronger and more sustainable future.
