Synopsis

As we all know from October 5, the ghost of cricket is going to rise above the world. This will be highest in India, because this time the Cricket World Cup is going to be played in India. Almost everyone likes to play and watch cricket, cricket is a religion in India, and because of this, many Hindi films have been made and will continue to be made on the game of cricket.

But the Gujarati films are not made on the game of cricket, and the Gujarati film about a girl playing cricket?

It takes a lot of courage to make a Gujarati film on this concept.

This courage is shown by Roopang Acharya, making a film based on a 15-year-old girl’s passion for playing cricket in the Gujarati film “Nikki”.

A Gujarati film named Nikki has already been released in cinemas.

Nikki is a Gujarati film. The film is written, directed, edited, Cinematographed and produced, by Roopang Acharya.

Let’s talk about the Story

Talking about the story of the film, there is no innovation or twist in the story. The story is simple, there is a girl named “Nikki” who has a craze for playing cricket, but her mom doesn’t like this.

Seeing boys playing cricket at school makes Nikki want to play cricket too. The sports teacher helps Nikki but the school principal refuses.

But Nikki is obsessed with wanting to play cricket. So she prepares a team of girls and so the principal of the school is now bound to agree.

The girls make a team, but there is no other team to play against. So what happens now?

Will Nikki and her team will just practice cricket or will even have a cricket match, and against whom? And what will be the result of this match?

What about the parents of the girls, will they support their girl child to play cricket?

Let me know what you think in the comment section.

Review

The film “Nikki” is a heartwarming story full of emotions.  There is a message to society particularly parents, who still believe that girls cannot play sports, and girls should play only those games related to girls.  Girls are supposed to get married and take care of the house.

The story and the film gives a strong message to these kind of conservative parents.

Acting:

The work of all three lead actors, particularly Aahana  Thakur is awesome. She has done a commendable work in this movie. I believe this is her first movie.  Samvedna is a seasoned actor as we all know her.  Her work as a lady cricket coach is inspirational.

Sonalee Lele Desai has played a typical Gujarati mother’s role of lead actor girl, Nikki.  Sonalee looks good in her mother’s role as always.

Navjotsingh Chauhan as a male coach has performed exceedingly well.  His innocent face as a male coach fits the character perfectly.

The rest of the supporting cast such as the principal and father of “Nikki” are also played very well.

Direction

As I said, nearly most of the difficult work to create a movie is done by Mr. Roopang Acharya, starting from writing the script to editing the movie.

But I would highly appreciate his direction, cinematography and editing work. Many of the cricket-playing shots he has taken as real shots.  Those shots and not cut shots where the bowling shot is taken and then the hitting shot is taken and then the catching shot is taken separately, “NO” he has taken all these shots at one go and those are real shots.

One can imagine how many times, he has taken retakes of these shots to do it at one go. Hats off to all the actors for these kinds of shots especially girls and boys.

The director had arranged a special coaching camp to coach these girls and this coaching is done by none other than Mrs. Jigna Gajjar. She has worked tirelessly with these girls for 3 months in the scorching heat of Ahmedabad.
