“Patkatha,” a gripping Gujarati film directed by Akhil Kotak, unfolds a narrative woven with the threads of revenge, power, and a cat-and-mouse game between its two central characters – the young avenger Ketki Dave and the formidable film producer Prateek Mehta.

Star Cast:  Kashish Rathore, Akhil Kotak, Saunak Vyas, Bhavini Jani, Arvind Vegda, and Manan Dave.

Direction:  Akhil Kotak

Producer: Manish Patel and Cinemos Production

IMDb Digital Promoter:  Ashvin Borad (Crazy Studio)

PR:  Manan Dave

Acting

Ketki Dave’s portrayal of the young avenger, Ketki Dave stands out as a cornerstone of the film’s success. Her ability to navigate the complex emotions of revenge and vulnerability adds depth to the character. On the flip side, Prateek Mehta’s depiction of the powerful film producer is equally noteworthy, with an imposing presence that makes him a formidable adversary. The on-screen chemistry between the two characters elevates the tension and intensity of the narrative. The other standout performer in the film is Saunak Vyas, the inspector.  Though his entry is bit late in the film his screen presence is felt by the audience.  The remaining actors have also done their work well and their performance is visible and admirable.

Direction

Directed by Akhil Kotak, “Patkatha” showcases masterful storytelling and an adept handling of suspense. The director skillfully weaves a narrative that keeps the audience engaged, with each scene contributing to the overall tension. The pacing is well-balanced, though initially, it seems a little slow, allowing for the gradual development of the plot while maintaining the film’s thrilling atmosphere.

Cinematography

The cinematography and the camera angle is not so good to be honest in “Patkatha.” The camera should be able to capture the nuances of the characters and their surroundings, adding to the overall impact of the story but unfortunately, this is lacking.

Plot and Script

The strength of “Patkatha” lies in its intricate plot and well-crafted script. The narrative is a rollercoaster of emotions, with unexpected twists and turns that keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Themes of morality, justice, and consequences are woven seamlessly into the storyline, challenging viewers to reflect on the characters’ motivations and choices. The climax, without giving away spoilers, is a testament to the writer’s ability to deliver a satisfying and thought-provoking resolution.

Themes and Messages

Beyond its suspenseful plot, “Patkatha” explores deeper themes of morality, justice, and the consequences of one’s actions. The film invites the audience to question the motivations of the characters and ponder the ethical implications of their choices.

Negative Points (my personal opinion)

  1. Camera angles were not proper at many points e.g. during the laughing scene of Ketki and Prateek, the face of Prateek should be shown from the front side not from the side-on angle.
  2. The audio quality was not excellent, it was satisfactory.
  3. Background music and sound effects were poor, especially during the first scene of Prateek where he is taking off his specs and other belongings.
  4. There are very less comedy punches, I was expecting more comedy.
  5. Kashish needs to work more on performing emotional scenes, especially crying scenes.
  6. Direction is okay but still, there is scope for improvement.
  7. I am not very happy with the DOP.

Positive points (my personal opinion)

  1. Saunak Vyas is excellent.
  2. Kashish has shown great talent in his first movie as a lead role, she is good in serious scenes.
  3. The acting of all the actors is good. The hard work of the entire team is apparent on the screen.
  4. Only one song and it is good.
  5. The on-screen chemistry between the two lead actors is excellent and that is a strong point of the film.
  6. No nudity, violence or brutality in the film and hence it can be watched with a full family.

Conclusion

In conclusion, “Patkatha” stands as a multifaceted triumph in Gujarati cinema. From stellar performances to expert direction, the film delivers a gripping tale that transcends the boundaries of regional cinema. As destiny plays its hand in the high-stakes game between Ketki Dave and the investigating officer, the audience is left captivated by a cinematic journey that is both satisfying and emotionally resonant. “Patkatha” is a must-watch for those seeking a well-crafted thriller that lingers in the mind long after the credits roll.
