Review of Hindi Movie “Do Patti”.

Once there was a king, and there were two queens, each with a different story. The king often acted impulsively, which bothered one queen and made the other seem wise to everyone. But when the truth was revealed, it became clear that women have real strength. Still, one unresolved story got tangled in the web, and today’s discussion is about this story. The film is called Do Patti”, a movie about mysteries, misunderstandings, and hidden truths.

The Plot

Movies like Ram Aur Shyam, Seeta Aur Geeta, Judwaa, Duplicate, Kaminey, and Tanu Weds Manu, their story is full of twists. The movie “Do Patti” is also on Twin Sisters, to find out who is lying, who is playing games, and who is the victim, you’ll have to watch this film which is now Streaming on Netflix.

Screenplay and Direction

The first half of the screenplay is fantastic, set in beautiful locations, and from the very first scenes, you can sense the thrill and suspense. One early scene stands out: Kajol’s character, Vidya Jyoti, enters her senior officer’s cabin. Before she comes in, the room is dark, but as she enters, the lights turn on. This symbolises her hopes, as she expects good news. Her boss then says, “So, your name is Vidya Jyoti, filled with knowledge and light.” But as soon as he says “light,” the lights go off again. This hints that her expectations won’t be met.

Then, he says, “You’re such a good officer that we can’t promote you,” and once again, the light goes off, indicating a negative outcome. He assigns her a routine patrolling duty instead, implying her career is “in the dark.” The use of lights turning on and off adds layers to the scene, making it engaging. This scene could have been shot without the lighting effects, but it would lack the depth added by these symbolic elements. This shows how deeply the directors are thinking now a days and making a boring scene more attractive and attentive.

Plot Overview

The movie focuses on the main themes of suspense,  social issues, jealousy and romance. These themes run parallel throughout the film. However, when the thriller elements shift to address domestic violence, it feels slightly unexpected. Nonetheless, it’s a relevant topic that deserves attention, and the film attempts to explore it neutrally, rather than from a feminist angle.

Acting and Performances

The movie is written by Kanika Dhillon, with Kriti Sanon as producer and actress, alongside Kajol and Tanvi Azmi. Kriti Sanon shines again, playing a double role—a glamorous girl and a quiet one—showcasing her talent once more after her performance in many other films. Kajol plays a police officer from Himachal Pradesh, marking her first role as a cop, and she brings detail to her performance, although she struggles a bit with the mountain dialect. Despite this, her performance stands strong. Her age is apparent on the screen despite her makeup.

In this movie, Tanvi Azmi and Shaheer Sheikh are from Himachal Pradesh, but only Kajol attempts the regional dialect, maybe because of her role as a police officer. Shaheer Sheikh plays the lead male role, stepping into films after successful work on television. His character has a grey shade—sometimes a charming boy, other times an abusive husband. He has made his character quite impressive.

Music, Setting, and Other Aspects

The film’s beautiful mountain locations, impressive background music, and supportive songs like Ranjhana elevate the scenes. The script is solid, though some parts could be tightened up. Overall, “Do Patti brings a good mix of suspense and social commentary, with a thrilling climax that keeps you guessing till the end.
