Afghan players were amused at how Rinku was given not out.
  2. During the first super over Nabi was taking a single while running he hit the ball with his leg and the ball went to long on, and Nabi took 3 controversial byes.

Rohit’s Heroics:

The stage was set at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, and India faced an early setback as Virat Kohli, the Royal Challengers Bangalore icon, recorded his first-ever golden duck in T20Is. With opener Yashasvi Jaiswal falling for a mere 4 runs and the struggles of Shivam Dube (1) and Sanju Samson (0), India found themselves on the brink of collapse.  India was just 22 for the loss of 4 important wickets.

Rohit’s Resilience:

Skipper Rohit Sharma, however, displayed remarkable resilience. Partnering with the young Rinku Singh (69*), Rohit not only steadied the Indian innings but propelled them to a commanding total. His outstanding knock resulted in a record-breaking fifth century, surpassing the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Glenn Maxwell.

The unbeaten 190-run partnership between Rohit and Rinku for the fifth wicket set a new standard in T20Is. Despite being 22/4 at one stage, India managed to post an impressive total of 212/4 in 20 overs.

Afghanistan’s Bowling Woes:

The final over, bowled by Afghanistan’s Karim Janat, turned into a nightmare as he leaked 36 runs, allowing India to reach the 212-run mark. Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten 121 off 69 balls marked the fourth-highest individual score by an Indian batter in T20Is.

Afghanistan’s Spirited Response:

Afghanistan, known for punching above its weight, responded with zeal. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, captain Ibrahim Zadran, and Gulbadin Naib played blazing half-centuries. Mohammad Nabi’s vital cameo lifted the underdogs to a commendable 167/4 in 17 overs. Pacer Mukesh Kumar went for 10 runs in the 18th over, and Avesh Khan was hammered for 17 runs in the 19th over. With 19 runs needed to win, skipper Rohit Sharma brought in Mukesh to bowl the final over in which Mukesh Kumar gave away 18 runs and the match was tied and went for the Super Over.

The Dramatic Super Over:

Gulbadin scored two runs on the last ball of the 20th over, forcing the game into a Super Over. Mukesh initiated the Super Over with a Kohli-inspired run-out, setting the stage for a nail-biting climax. Afghanistan scored 16 runs, thanks to Nabi’s six and three controversial byes.

In the first Super Over saw Rohit Sharma smashing two consecutive sixes, but a strategic decision to retire himself out led to a tied score of 16 and the match went for double Super Over drama. The second Super Over witnessed Rohit and Co. managing only 11 runs, losing both Rohit and Rinku.

Bishnoi’s Masterstroke:

In a final twist, Rohit Sharma played a masterstroke by introducing Ravi Bishnoi in the second Super Over. Bishnoi dismissed Nabi on the first ball and Gurbaz on the third. Afghanistan managed to score only 1 run in the second Super Over and India secured a thrilling double Super Over victory.

What was initially considered a dead rubber turned into a historic encounter, producing two Super Overs. The crowd at the Chinnaswamy Stadium witnessed a combined total of 424 runs, making it an unforgettable night of cricket.

In conclusion, Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, batting prowess, and strategic decisions turned a routine T20 match into a cricket saga. The clash between India and Afghanistan will be remembered as a testament to the unpredictability and excitement that cricket can deliver.
