Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) proudly celebrated India’s 79th Independence Day today, embracing the inspiring theme of “Naya Bharat” (New India). The celebration at RRU reflects a growing trend across Indian institutions to align Independence Day events with visionary themes like “Naya Bharat,” emphasising modernity and inclusive growth. RRU, recognised as an Institution of National Importance, is focused on national security, policing, cyber security, and forensic science. The commemorative event highlighted the nation’s progress and future aspirations, with significant participation from the university community.
RRU’s campus, spread over 232 acres along the Meshwo River in Gandhinagar, provides a strong backdrop for such events. The university follows the TREE model: Training, Research, Education, Extension, showing its multifaceted commitment to national development. The celebrations were graced by the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel, Vice-Chancellor of RRU, who delivered the address of Smt. Droupadi Murmu, the Hon’ble President of India, to the assembled faculty, staff, and students.
Prof. Bimal N. Patel, apart from serving as Vice-Chancellor, is a noted international law scholar and member of India’s National Security Advisory Board. The Rashtriya Raksha University was created as an upgrade from Raksha Shakti University through an Act of Parliament in 2020, marking its elevation as a central, national-level institution. The President’s message underscored the vision for a new and prosperous India, resonating deeply with the audience. The “Naya Bharat” theme strongly echoes Prime Minister Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and a self-reliant, progressive nation; such messages are often echoed by central institutions like RRU.
The event commenced with Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel, Vice-Chancellor of RRU, reading out the address of Smt. These included impressive displays by NCC Cadets, melodious songs sung by RRU students, and insightful skits presented by students from the Raksha Shakti School (RSS), highlighting various aspects of national development and security. RSS, or Raksha Shakti School, was established by RRU as a model residential school similar to Sainik Schools, aiming to prepare young students for future roles in defence, CAPF, and police services
RSS is formed on a public-private partnership model in collaboration with the Government of Gujarat, serving as a feeder school aligned with national security objectives. A notable highlight was the physical demonstration by RRU security personnel, showcasing their rigorous training and preparedness, complemented by a captivating K9 dog demonstration, illustrating the crucial role of service animals in security operations.
RRU places strong emphasis on real-world training and readiness in its schools, like the School of Internal Security and SMART Policing, and others, which offer training that aligns with practical demands. The event served as a powerful reminder of India’s journey and the collective effort required to build a “Naya Bharat.” Rashtriya Raksha University remains committed to its mission of fostering excellence in national security and policing, contributing significantly to the nation’s strategic capabilities.
RRU positions itself as a hub for national security education, research, and training and continues to expand through campuses across India, including in Pasighat (Arunachal Pradesh), Lucknow, Puducherry, Shimoga, and Bhopal.
