In a significant step towards animal welfare, a state-of-the-art animal shelter and an advanced ambulance service were inaugurated at Shri Viramgam Khodadhor Panjrapol Sanstha in Oganvid, Gujarat. The event marked a collaborative effort by various organizations dedicated to the care and protection of animals.
The newly opened shelter is designed to house 600 animals, providing them with a comfortable and safe environment. Constructed with donations amounting to ₹1 crore, the facility features air-conditioned spaces to ensure the well-being of its residents. The shelter is part of a larger 1,200-acre area owned by the organization, which currently cares for 2,300 animals.
Beyond providing shelter, the organization has implemented sustainable practices to support the animals. Rainwater harvesting systems have been developed, and existing ponds have been deepened to ensure a year-round water supply. Additionally, over 5,000 native trees have been planted, creating a natural habitat and promoting biodiversity. The cultivation of natural grass within the premises further contributes to a self-sufficient ecosystem.
In a pioneering move, an animal ambulance equipped with modern medical facilities was introduced in Ahmedabad. This mobile unit includes an operating room, anesthesia equipment, oxygen cylinders, a freezer for medications, a geyser, and fire safety gear. The ambulance aims to provide immediate medical attention to animals in need. Citizens can access this service by calling the helpline number 91529 90399.
The initiatives were made possible through the collaboration of several organizations, including Samast Mahajan, Dinesh Modi Charitable Trust, L.J. Samast Mahajan, and Arogya Kendra. Dr. Girish Shah, Managing Trustee of Samast Mahajan, emphasized the organization’s commitment to enhancing facilities for animals and creating a livable world for all beings.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by notable dignitaries, including Cabinet Minister Shri Kunwarji Bavaliya, Guruji Arjunbhai Desai of Shri Sadhim Mandir, MLA Hardikbhai Patel, and former MP Somabhai Patel. Their presence underscored the importance of collective efforts in promoting animal welfare.
Samast Mahajan, with over 21 years of service, continues to address various social issues, including cleanliness drives, rural development, environmental protection, and human welfare. Their ongoing efforts aim to create a harmonious coexistence between humans and animals, ensuring a sustainable and compassionate future.
