Shani Dev’s Kindness Shines at Nagarvel Hanumanji Temple’s Grand Festival. Rituals, Prayers, and Hope for a Better Life
A grand celebration for Shani Dev’s birthday was held at the ancient Shri Nagarvel Hanumanji Temple on Amraiwadi-Rakhiyal Road in Ahmedabad. From early morning, many devotees came to worship Shani Dev. They offered oil, flowers, garlands, and lit lamps. People also gave black cloth, black lentils, black sesame seeds, black umbrellas, black shoes, and iron items to Shani Dev. They did this to feel blessed and to pray for Shani Dev’s kindness and blessings in their lives.
On this special day, the priests and devotees poured mustard oil on Shani Dev’s idol while chanting mantras. There was also a special fire ceremony (havan) in the temple courtyard, where prayers were made for peace in the world and for the good of all people. Food was served to children, and a grand prayer (aarti) was held for Shani Dev.
On this happy occasion, the head priest, Shri Ranganathacharyaji Maharaj, told the devotees that in the month of Vaishakh, on the new moon day, Shani Dev’s birthday is celebrated. Shani Dev is the ruler of Kaliyug (the present age). Many people get scared when they hear Shani Dev’s name or about the difficult times called “Sade Sati” or “Panoti.” But in truth, Shani Dev is a kind god. He is the son of the Sun. If someone worships Shani Dev and surrenders to him, they get many benefits. Anyone who does their duties honestly and with hard work will have their wishes fulfilled by Shani Dev and will get happiness and wealth.
He strongly encouraged everyone to be truthful, do good things, and assist others. “Shani Dev helps who are honest and kind. Shani Dev would always defend you and grant your wishes if you labour honestly and assist those in need,” he continued.
At Nagarvel Hanumanji Temple, Shani Jayanti was celebrated with more than just prayers and ceremonies. It was a day to remember that the most important things in life are faith, kindness, and honesty. The temple’s message was unambiguous: Shani Dev is not to be feared. Rather, honour him, pray sincerely, and lead a moral life.
This festival demonstrated how community, faith, and good deeds can unite people and bring joy and serenity into their lives. For everyone in Ahmedabad, Shani Dev Jayanti at Nagarvel Hanumanji Temple was a day to remember.
