Shubhman Gill: Rohit and Kohli Are Rare Players
Shubham Gill Gave a Clear Answer About Rohit and Kohli’s Presence in The 2027 World Cup
After a brilliant series in England, Shubman Gill’s career is moving ahead very quickly. He is now the captain of India’s ODI team. Even after becoming the new poster boy of Indian cricket, Gill remains calm and humble.
Shubhman Gill said, “The last few months have been very exciting for me.” His eyes showed more hunger for success than satisfaction. He added, “I’m eagerly waiting for what’s ahead. My aim is to stay focused on the present. I don’t want to get stuck thinking about my or the team’s past achievements. In the coming months, I only want to focus on winning every tournament.”
Gill’s Clear Answer on Rohit and Kohli
Before the second Test against West Indies at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Shubhman Gill was asked about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s participation in the 2027 World Cup. He gave a clear and direct answer.
He said, “Yes, of course.” He answered in Hindi very comfortably. He explained that players like Rohit and Kohli are rare. “There are very few players in the world who have this kind of experience, talent, and record. I’m very happy about that,” Shubhman Gill said.
Right now, Kohli and Rohit only play ODI cricket. At the end of this month, they will play three ODIs in Australia under Gill’s captaincy.
Gill Praises Rohit Sharma
Recently, chief selector Ajit Agarkar gave a vague reply on the same question in Ahmedabad. But Gill openly praised former captain Rohit Sharma. He said he has learned a lot from Rohit’s captaincy.
Shubhman Gill said, “I have learned many qualities from Rohit bhai. I try to stay calm like him and create the same positive atmosphere in the team. I want to adopt these qualities from him.”
Shubhman Gill also shared that his relationship with coach Gautam Gambhir is very good. Both of them want to make sure that the players feel safe and comfortable in the team. He said, “Our relationship is very good. We often talk about how to make players feel more secure and what team combinations will work best.”
Shubhman Gill accepted that playing in all three formats can be mentally tiring. He said, “Physically, I feel good most of the time, but sometimes mental tiredness happens. I have my own expectations. When you keep playing all the time, it becomes hard to match those expectations.”
India vs West Indies: Second Test from October 10 in Delhi
The second Test match between India and the West Indies will be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from October 10. India won the first Test by an innings and 140 runs. If there are no injuries, India is likely to keep the same playing XI.
In the first Test, KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and Ravindra Jadeja scored centuries and gave the team a big total. In the bowling department, Mohammad Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kuldeep Yadav bowled brilliantly and helped India win the match in just 3 days.

The West Indies team is expected to make changes for the second Test match. It will be interesting to see which players the team management brings into the playing XI.

Tomorrow’s match is very important for India as far as the WTC Points table is concerned. Shubhman Gill said that he wants to focus on each game and wants to win every game that India plays. India is in the third position in the WTC points table, having played the most matches among other teams. Australia is leading the table, standing in the top position, and Sri Lanka is in the second position.
Six test-playing nations have started their campaign of WTC 2025-2027, while three teams like New Zealand, South Africa and Pakistan have yet to play a test match for WTC 2025-2927.
Hence, it is too early to say anything about the WTC qualifications. We just have to wait and watch for now.
